This is going on right now.

    California Legislature

    NATHAN FLETCHER
    Assemblymember, 75th District

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: Ericka Perryman
    September 10, 2009 (916) 319-2075

ASSEMBLYMAN NATHAN FLETCHER TO CHALLENGE LOS ANGELES’ ATTEMPT TO STEAL CHARGERS FROM SAN DIEGO

WHAT: San Diego Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, R-75th District, will propose amendments to AB 81XXX to prevent Los Angeles from stealing the San Diego Chargers. Without this amendment, the proposed legislation will give one Los Angeles community a competitive financial advantage over San Diego to build a professional sports stadium.

In its current form, the legislation names the Los Angeles County City of Industry as the sole benefactor of an exemption from California’s stringent environmental building regulations (CEQA standards) that every San Diego County city must abide by. That competitive advantage will allow the City of Industry to build a state-of-the-art sports stadium and entice California’s existing professional sports teams to permanently relocate to their new facility.

In an effort to protect the forty-eight year relationship San Diego has built with the NFL Chargers franchise, the Assemblyman will ask that AB 81XXX be amended to forbid the City of Industry’s CEQA exemption from being used to relocate any existing California-based professional sports team.

WHEN: Thursday, September 10, 2009—During Assembly Floor Session scheduled to begin at 9:30 am and conclude at 6:00 pm

WHO: Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher, California State Assembly, 75th District

Don't know much about the politics - but good to see a politician sticking up for San Diego.
