Hey! We agree on something. It's all a leverage ploy and also it's housekeeping. If you had players out there leaking that a deal was close then chances are that they're the ones losing the leverage in the T-crossing and I-dotting of the final stages of putting something together - and there is a decent amount of that sort of stuff where the pocket change can go all CoinStar on you and add up to a pretty decent chunk of cash. Because the owners are the ones lockign the players out they're going to get blamed regardless if a deal fails to materialize in a timely fashion - they knew this going in - however if players start leaking that a deal is close and then it hits a snag and drags out longer... then the Players Assoc starts shouldering a larger portion of the blame than they want to bare in the eyes of the media and fans.

I agree it's speculation, but this isn't too dissimilar to what occurred the last time a group of players sued the league during times of labor dispute (re: right before the franchise tag was instituted), and the "reparations/rewards" being sought by those players who we named as plaintiffs in the lawsuit were that those players would gain a "special status" whereby they wouldn't be able to be franchise tendered for the remainder of their careers, among other minor stipulations. This is a huge deal to guys like Logan Mankins, Vincent Jackson, and probably Drew Brees who is a free agent in 2012 and Von Miller (who would effectively be un-taggable his entire career). Guys like Peyton and Greenway (and likely Brees) wouldn't be expected to leave their respective teams, however the fact that they'd be available on the open market would all but guarantee that they'd rake in contracts that were the highest at the respective positions (if not in the league with regard to the two QB's).

So yeah, while it's pure speculation at this point, at least Florio's got some history (and apparently three individual sources) to stand on.

They'll get it done by the deadline or maybe miss one week. Too much at stake.
You're better off ignoring the whole freaking charade that's going on now.
