While not a perfect performance, it was an improvment over what we have seen so far!

    Balls
Ryan Matthews -- Over 100 total yards and ran hard all day.
Phillip Rivers -- 300+ and no picks. Two very timely runs. This is more like it.
Vincent Jackson -- 3 catches, 108 and a score. 'Nuff said.
Marcus Gilchrist -- Had a PI, but got a pick and broke up a TD pass
Larry English -- 2 sacks. This one's not a misprint folks

    Birds
    Clary -- Inexcusable penalties.

Lots to like this week, especially being 3-1. Lines are open.

    Balls - Jackson, Novak, English.
Birds - Clary (3rd), Cason, Norv

If we can't score in the redzone, then Norv Turner has no purpose here.

They need to use Mathews on a sprint option in the Red zone. he's blocking better and he's proving he can catch the ball ala LT.

    Ball: Novak...good job.
Mathews...the game is slowing way down for him.
    McMichael...looked like the younger Mcmichael.
McNeil..didn't see him get beat once.

Bird: no one really...just fix the dumb false starts(that's raider game),
    and we should be good.

    Balls:
Larry English - he deserves it, two good sacks
    Nick Novak - Outstanding Game
Philip Rivers - no turnovers, by and large good game
Ryan Mathews & Mike Tolbert - great duo of RBs
Vincent jackson - What a great game

    Middle
Marcus Gilchrist - first INT, some bad plays but also some real good ones too. So its what a rookie would do
Eric Weddle - another game ending INT and some so-so plays

    Birds:
Penalties - very sloppy in many areas
Jeromey Clary - do not like what he does as a player

Balls - Mathews (can I take back a comment I made a few weeks ago - Ryan who?)
Novak (dare I say Kaeding who? Probably not...)
    V Jac

Birds - with the small exception of Clary's "fight", can't think of one...

Balls: Novak- I mean... Has this guy missed one yet?
Vincent Jackson- just 3 receptions for 108 yds? who does that??? He does!
Philip Rivers- Did his best without his best, no Gates, no problem.

    Birds:
Just Clary really.. that's about it.

3-1 and I'm loving it.. one at a time.. the old cliche.

    Balls:
GILCHRIST- I don't give a rat's *** about 1 P.I. penalty. His int, and ridiculous pass deflection gets him a ball. He was going up against Marshall all day and did very well.
Mathews- keeps getting nice total yards, but he did fumble the rock today. Luckily he recovered it.
Rivers- Was clutch all day with nice runs and passes to get out of trouble.
Weddle- I love this guy, over and over shutting the collective hating mouths of certain charger fans who think he is overrated. This guy comes up with big play after big play....Give the guy his do.

    Birds:
Clary- For christ sake on top of penalties, he was getting beat repeatedly by just about everyone in front of him.
Norv- Red zone struggles continue. Nuff said.

Balls - Mathews, Jackson, Rivers, Gilchrist, Weddle (should have had 2 ints), McMichael, Spikes, & the guy who stole Larry English's jersey
Birds - Clary, Norv, and Jeff Triplette (worst ref ever)

Haven't seen you around much lately Express:)

I guess Mathews hasn't made many mistakes, it doesn't give you much to talk about.

Mathews - About 5 yds/carry is nothing but impressive. Great to have this RB.
    English - 2 sacks, 2 well-earned sacks
    Spikes - Playmaker, leader, MFIC

    Birds:
Offensive line - no, it isn't getting better

I think I'll add fumbles, yes they are bouncing our way but its not going to stay that way forever or even for long

The officiating has been horrid this year. Did these guys slack off during the lockout or something? Gilchrist gets called for PI on a play identical to the play last week where Rivers was picked and there was no call. Either it's PI or an INT. The refs need to make up their fracking minds.

Maybe English just needed to get healthy? He looked good today, and not just on the two sack plays.

That screen play was awesome. Not only did Mathews read his blocks and make the right cuts, but when he turned on the speed the defenders were left reaching for air.

    Balls:
Mathews: We're watching a back come into his own.
Gilchrist: Holy ****. That was his first game starting in the NFL? dude is better than Cason already.
Norv: Yep. A ball. For ball control.
VJ: I'll give him passes on 5 more DUIs for weekly sheet like that.
M80: I know that dude is hurt and he came out. Stat sheet won't represent it, but he played through pain today.
Spikes: Holy ****. Thank you for coming to San Diego.
    Butler: See Spikes.
    English: See Spikes.
Martin: From the heart of the Caribbean.

    Birds:
Gregory: Adrenaline wore off from last week. Still needs to figure out how to tackle. There was a reason the Bolts paid a million to Sanders..
Liuget: Time to step up against the run. Knocked on his *** too much.
    Clary: Earn the $$$ dammit.
Rivers: Sorry, PR, you're still throwing up a few wounded ducks, and I want a Rodgers-like performance every week ;)

While I wouldn't champion the day Clary had, it sure looked
to me like me was more breaking up a fight
(as Fins' Langford came after McNeill) than starting one...

Balls: Mathews - starting to show what a 1st round pick is supposed to be.
Novak - looking like the right choice.
PR - not quite the PR we all know yet, but a marked improvement & no TO's.
Gilchrist - he could push Cason hard before long.
VJ - I'm looking at you, AJ. Pay da man.
M80 - gutted it out through the pain.
    Spikes - yeah, baby!!
Butler - coming along real well.
English - 2 sacks, both against Jake Long I believe.
McMichael- more than holding his own.

Birds: Cason - he's very lucky that Marshall didn't burn his *** for a couple of TD's.
    Clary - rough game.

Honorable mention - nice play by Vincent Brown to keep drive alive.

    Balls:

Philip Rivers – Over 300 yards passing & no turnovers, he’s looking like his “old self” plus a little timely scrambling to boot!

Eric Weddle – game clinching interception for the 2nd week in a row, lost another pick due to a penalty on another Charger defender.

Randy McMichael – Big game against his old team, gutted it out after getting hurt and we really needed him to, with no Antonio Gates.

Takeo Spikes – Solid game & veteran leadership, had a sack and a nice open field tackle of Reggie Bush that prevented a big gainer, possibly even a score.

Vincent Jackson – 100+ yards & a long touchdown in the 1st half alone, he’s on his way to another Pro Bowl, and a huge contract – I hope it’s with us!

Larry English – 2 sacks, we need to see much more of this to justify his high selection & 2 unproductive years.

Nick Novak – 4 for 4 on field goals, and 4 touchbacks in his 6 kickoffs. (He’s probably already drooling over the prospect of kicking in Denver next weekend) It’s real early, but he’s not making us miss Nate Kaeding at all.

Marcus Gilchrist – looked good in his 1st NFL start, got his 1st career pick and all cornerbacks eventually get called for pass interference.

Ryan Mathews & Mike Tolbert – Good performance by both running backs, ran effectively late and protected our lead.

Donald Butler- Provided constant pressure, forced Henne to throw an interception with his crushing hit!

    Birds:

Fumbles – We had several but got them all back, we won’t continue to be this lucky.

Antoine Cason – Continues to get “tutored” by wide receivers, he should be our nickel corner when Jammer returns!

Jeromy Clary – Dumb 15 yard penalty & a false start to boot.
