Belichick has 7-2 record against MVPs

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- He has defeated the rookie head coach who once worked for him, and rather convincingly, 37-16. Now Bill Belichick really has his work cut out. Next up for the ingenious strategist who almost always has or finds the antidote: concocting a plan to contain the running back who had a season for the ages and the record books, LaDainian Tomlinson.
Tomlinson, the league's scoring leader, rushing leader, total yardage leader, Most Valuable Player and offensive player of the year, has had a couple of good days at the office against the Patriots. His last two games against them, he's rushed for 217 and 134 yards and scored twice in each contest, both Chargers victories. Last season, San Diego routed New England, 41-17, at Gillette Stadium, prompting Marty Schottenheimer to question whether the ever-resilient Patriots had sustained one loss too many.
"They came in and did what they wanted to do," recalled nose tackle Vince Wilfork after Sunday's win. "And it's not like anything has changed. They're still rolling."

Impress your friends with the following bit of trivia: The Patriots under Belichick are 7-2 against Most Valuable Players. In 2001 they avenged a regular-season loss to Kurt Warner's Rams with an upset win in Super Bowl XXXVI. In 2003 the Patriots defeated the Titans and Colts and co-MVPs Steve McNair and Peyton Manning twice each. And two years ago they got the better of Manning in both the regular season and the playoffs. (The other loss came in 2002 against Rich Gannon's Raiders.)

    01: Kurt Warner Super Bowl
    02: Rich Gannon regular season
03: McNair (Regular Season & Post) and Manning (Regular & Post Season)
    04: Manning (Post Season)
    05: Alexander....?

I remember Bill's face after we destroyed his team and the SOB knows his asss will be handed to him again by Cam Cameron. The Patriots are going to get dominated. The 12th man will rise like the phoenix from the ashes and finally the heartbeat of San Diego will start to be felt......

After we destroy the Patriots, the AFC Championship game will be freaking magical. This is our year and nothing will stop this team. This is it. :bolt2:

stats like these are so meaningless it's not really worth printing.

What bearing does Billichek's record against the Colts, Titans, Rams, and Raiders or any other team, for that matter, really have on his team's ability to beat the Chargers?

The implication here is that if Drew Brees was voted MVP the Chargers would, perhaps, have a better chance of beating New England than they do now?

    From that article ...

Sorry, but Wilfork isn't half the NT that Jamal is, Warren isn't nearly as good as Castillo. Seymour is the only "great" player in that group.

The Pats LB's are slow. They are smart, but not nearly as talented as the Chargers LB's, and in no way to the Pats have a pass rushing tandem like Merriman and Phillips.

Comparing the two fronts sevens is insane.

Whereas Belichick has often confused quarterbacks and disrupted their protection with exotic blitzes, LT forces defenses to commit eight defenders to the box and play basic coverages. And, of course, there are all the problems he causes defenses when the Chargers split him out as a wide receiver. Plus, he's even a threat to throw the ball in the red zone.

    Complete head to head record:

1991 Cleveland (Belichick) beat KC (Marty) 20-15
1994 KC (Marty) beat Cleveland (Belichick) 20-13
1995 Cleveland (Belichick) beat KC (Marty) 35-17
2002 San Diego (Marty) beat NE (Belichick) 21-14
2005 San Diego (Marty) beat NE (Belichick) 41-17

Marty leads 3-2 overall in the regular season. They've never met as head coaches in the post season.

It's funny people are pointing out how good Belichick is at shiat like this.

Wasn't Belichick also undefeated versus Peyton and the Colts until last year? Then what happened? Peyton beat the Pats twice in a row.

The Chargers get an extra coach this week, with three games experience this year vs. the Pats.

Think Marty is on the phone with Brian right now?

I'm going to try and talk as little as possible leading up to the game to save my voice for the game.

One thing I noticed about that article is that it focused on Bellachick stopping LT. Go ahead, put 8 in the box and try to stop LT. Even against 8 man fronts, LT can break a huge run, but the killer is that if they commit so many to stop the run, Rivers wil kill them.

And what about us stopping their number one weapon, Brady. Send Merriman, Philips, Castillo, Igor, & Big Jamal and Brady will get happy feet and make bad throws. I wonder what the over/under is on how many INTs Brady with throw?

This means... no yelling when the Chargers have the ball.

But, when the Patriots have the ball...give it all you got!

But, here's the thing... be your loudest right before the snap. The main thing about noise is to try and cause confusion and false starts when they're trying to call a play.

and yes, I realize the majority of you already know this.
