Why do you always just randomly choose threads to post completely unrelated material in?

    Also, pic unrelated:

Well reading some of the good posts here, I do agree that firing Ted Cotrell and replacing him with Ron Rivera would be the best option for the rest of the season. Then, we could either keep him or bring in a DC like Nolan, Marvin Lewis, or more unlikely, Wade Phillips.

I know some think that keeping Cotrell makes the most sense, as change for change sake is not the answer. But then explain the Rams' recent success after firing Linehan and promoting Haslett? It may not mean a playoff spot or much else to the Rams, but it has led to obvious improvement, and some renewed focus. We could use that here.

We couldn't bring in someone this late into the season imho. He'd have to learn the players, get in sync with other D-coaches or have their own coaches learn the players, and study the opponents on the fly. That's why promoting Haslett was a good idea in St. Louis, and why promoting Rivera or Pagano would work better here.

And I have to agree that Norv, as an unpopular coach as he is, he has the offense kicking *** for the most part. It's his specialty, he won't take a demotion, and the players bought into him already, so there's no point in firing him now.

Nolan isn't a bad option for next year. Like someone wrote, he worked well with Norv in SF, and had a good 3-4 in Balt. I don't know who was the better DC in Balt. however, Nolan or Lewis, so whoever it is would be better. Phillips would be good cuz his success here, but would he copy LeBeau and return to his old position as a DC for the same team after failing as a HC elsewhere? Cowher won't come here as HC because of his relationship with Marty, so scratch that.

The one fiery, up-and-comer I really wanted here was Mike Singletary. Hear about what he did in SF already?

He also benched his starting QB, and apologized to fans for his team. Accountability and fiery, sounds like a great up-and-comer. Too bad SF isn't gonna let him go.

Oh and Nolan doesn't sound as great now

    Man, what could have been....

Singletary is gonna be AWESOME as a H/C. Gime him time, and SF will be kicking asses pretty soon.

if he's released at the end of the year (a strong possibility) I almost want to hire him. Use the old Marty system; have the OC run the offense, the DC run the defense, the head coach run practices and focus the team.

    OC: norv
    DC: wade
    HC: Singletary

Norv will not accept a demotion.

    But I like it.

Hmmmm. So only certain people are allowed to say they want an new HC as well as a new DC?

That's discrimination. You will hear from my lawyer!!!  :icon_tease:

Just curious... What makes you think that the possibility of Singletary being released at the end of this season is strong?

Though I agree that this is the system we need. Even if we don't get those particular people (availability of Singletary and Wade, Norv accepting demotion), that is the system that works and what we had.
