The game was alot closer that what I had expected considering the Turds lost to the Jets 38-0, and the Giants 44-7. We barely beat them on opening day 24-20, and only won by a touchdown and a 2 point conversion. That being said here's my good and bad points from the game. Add anything else you might have noticed.

    Bad points:

2 Turnovers, the Sproles fumble was unfortunate could have cost us big.
Kept Oakland in the game until the final minutes. Should have closed the door on this sorry team at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
Giving up yet another 4th down pass by the worst QB in the league to keep their drive going, (luckily we stopped them on the final 4th down play).

    Good Points:

    Got the Win !!
Held them to only 99 yards on the ground.
5 sacks by the Defense (2 by Merriman)
    Cro finally got an INT.
    Phillips had a forced fumble
LT had 2 TD's that were impressive, and the Wildcat TD was cool as hell. !!
VJ had yet another kick *** day with 8 for 103 and a TD.

    Anything else...:icon_shrug:

    Good: Our offense is ok.

    Bad: our defense sucks.

    Bad Points
We still seem to only play half a game of football
After initial drive, didn't seem like we were being very creative and became predictable
Lot of blitzes but few people winning one-on-one matches
    Sloppy special teams
Turnovers were responsible for alot of points

    Good Points
Watching Bey and Murphy collide on a crossing route :icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl::icon_rofl:
OMG LT scores two TDs and looks better
Vincent Jackson and Floyd = studs
Merriman and Phillips with two sacks each
    Better run stopping then before
    Russell still sucks
When they want to, they can just smack people around
Raiders lost 13 straight against us, see ya next year

Totally disagree with this .. While I'd like to see a bit more pass rush, I think we have started to look a little more solid.. When Russell had time, he didn't have a whole lot open which to me speaks volumes about what the secondary is doing.

    GOOD:

    • Passing game continues to soar
    • Merriman/LT looking better every week
    • Nate Kaeding's hustle to prevent another ST gaff
    • Once the gimicks gave us an edge, we had plenty of time to focus on basic football - something our boys need to improve upon in the long haul
    • Yogi showing why he was kept on the roster - love his attitude
    • Good experience vs. a very physical talented group of RB's - held them to FG's except early TD on short field

    BAD:

    • Timmy going down w/a knee injury
    • Stupid penalties like false starts continue
    • Sproles landed on that fumble, should have been SD ball
    • Continued struggle in run defense

What game were you watching? If anything it should be reversed. The Turds were trying their damndest to score and we held them to one touchdown (because of a TO at the 27) & 3 FG (2 of which were 40+ yards). 5 sacks & and a pick. Merriman finally made his presence known with 7 tackles and 2 sacks. We held them to under 100 yards rushing.

Offensively, 2nd half they SHUT US DOWN. We managed a measely 3 points. I could care less how many bombs Rivers connects with because in the end if we can't put it in the endzone it is meaningless.

Regardless of how bad the Turds are they always play us hard and usually are close games. Is our defense were it needs to be? Absolutely not, but to have some of guys start to make some noise (SM & SP) hopefully it can only get better. We are finally bringing more heat and it is paying off.

Good: The lines played MUCH better than the first game. I saw two huge holes for the running game and Rivers seemed to have a lot of time to throw.

Bad: Not being able to close it out. The game should never have been this close. And the ST play had some long runs against, again.

We give up on average 138 ypg and held them to 99 yards today. I would think that should be an improvement. It may look like they ran all over us because they ran more then they passed. Still confused as to how we allow 40 yards less in rushing is a struggle. Our average per attempt was 4.3 and today was 3.6. Everything points to improving and not struggling.

I didn't watch the game and even I know the defense wasn't that bad today.

The offense scoring 3 whole points in the 2nd half is disconcerning.

I think we still struggled in run D, but we did improve. I also think as long as it continues to get better each week we will be ok in that area. I would like to see us regularly giveing up an average of 75 yards a game or less. A tall order, but doable. :icon_toast:

    Good:
    Getting the W
Win streak continues vs. the Raiders
FINALLY scoring on our opening drive
    Pass Blocking
1st half both sides of the ball
LT 2 tds + Merriman 2 sacks, these 2 are finally getting healthy
Raiders recievers playing pass D on themselves

    Bad:
2nd half offense, seriously, stop running up the gut on 1st down every single time
D not getting off the field on 4th and 7, pathetic
Special teams give up another long return, WAKE UP GUYS AND STAY IN YOUR LANES!!!!
Having to sweat it out @ the end
We don't get to play the Raiders again

Offense was OK today but they were terrible throughout the third quarter with only 3 points.

Defense-I agree still sucks and the Giants will run all over them next week and we won't even touch Eli Manning. Yes, I was at the game today and I can't believe everyone is saying how well the defense played.

Chargers were supposed to win by at least 16 points and the game was NOT decided until the last series of the game! We were supposed to be cruising to an easy victory by then.

a win is a win is a win

how the Charger played against the raiders or how the giants played against the eagles has very little to do in how they'll play next week

To say the defense "sucked" today is a stretch. I know Russell and the Turds are pathetic on O, but we did hold them to 81 net yards passing, had 5 sacks, and our run defense got significantly better as the game wore on. 99 yards rushing allowed and only a 3.7 yard average. If not for 2 turnovers and a big return on special teams, our defense would have come close to a shutout. On the whole, light years better than week 1.

The play of a team against one opponent might not be terribly indicative of the performance against another opponent but a win is even less so.

The "D" held the Raturds to a total of 208 yards of offense...that should equal a win every time! I still think our "D" bends too much...we will get burned against a better team, but the results today speak for themselves.

It also helped that the Raturds don't have a quaterback that could hit the broad side of a barn!

You talk as if the play of our defense is static when it is clearly not. We have been improving from week to week. Merriman is getting healthier. As a result, Phillips is getting more opportunities. Travis Johnson getting healthy and Ian Scott coming back have greatly improved our NT play. Gregory is making plays and Hart is not back there to phuck things up any more. Hopefully, our defensive play will continue to get better. I want to see Merriman and Phillips making a Sheli sandwich next week.

I guess it's a matter of perception - I think they def did better today and made some strides BUT for us to go the distance, there needs to be continued improvement. Our defense, specifically run defense is not where it needs to be (yet).

That said - I agree that they did MUCH better and they should have - plus considering how much the Raiders ran the ball to prevent Jamarcus from throwing picks we did a heck of a job holding them to 3's instead of 7's. Thing is, other teams with strong running games will be able to punch it in when the Raiders can't b/c any other team is going to be more balanced with some kind of passing game.

Good game - we got the W and our pass rush made an appearance - I like it
