good pickup,... wonder why the turds didn't match the offer... anyway, he's got the nasty and the experience...

2 former solid players, him and Shelton, renta-vets that didn't cost much... it's ALL about keeping PR verticle....

I like everything about this move. Newberry brings experience and versatility, he's younger than Mike Goff, he's going to end up playing quite a bit for us this year (IMO).

I've always liked him. He was always solid on the niners and I think he knows well enough to mesh with our line. He'll fill in anywhere he's needed and he'll do a good job. I think he'll hold down our line through injuries or need all season. It's a good signing.

...Plus he worked under Norv in SF. Any depth and experience we can obtain on the OL is okay with me

Considering Hardwick's injury and the uncertain timetable for his return, the signing of Newberry is perfect.

Great move. Depth wins championships. Can't have enough solid guys coming off the bench esp. with Hardwick hurt. 2 time ProBowler. Tough with a mean streak. So he has one major flaw on his resume (ex-Faider). Do we even question A.J. anymore. Well some of you still do.....:icon_shrug:

I'm happy that most of you think, that Newberry is a right decision.
I didn't know him, but he was a Raider.

I'm not sure to be honest, want to see if he's healthy and will accept being a backup (which some career starters have a hard time doing)

Not usually the ones who are so crippled that they routinely are held out of mid-week practices.

I think he was only a Raider for one year. Hopefully the stink hasn't permeated to deeply.

I think this a good pickup. Depth, it's what's for championships.

I find it interesting that his whole career, college and NFL, he'll have played for Cali teams. Don't know why that's interesting to me, but it is.

    Ditto.

Also, as Norv must have signed off on him, my confidence is increased.

Sounds like he's got that good veteran attitude to have, he's had enough of losing teams I imagine :icon_tease:

We have two tough vets, Newberry and Shelton. Neither one could play a whole season, but they are terrific depth, especially since Newberry can plays just about anywhere on the line comes a crunch. AJ probably shaped the draft over the fact that he had drawn a bead on these two fairly early on. If Robertson is as solid as I hope, we have the makings of something solid.

I watched his interview yesterday on chargers.com and it looks like he means business...very short and to the point. Hopefully he has checked whatever ego at the door and keeps our boy rivers upright for as long as he needs but I am really diggin the depth at O line!

    Good O line + talented QB(PR) = 4000 yrds passing

Good O line + talented RB(LT) = opposing Defense is screwed!!!

    IS IT SEPT. YET??
