Brandt: Spanos indicates LT will stay a Charger

Posted: News | NFL.com Staff | Tags: Dean Spanos, LaDainian Tomlinson, Norv Turner, San Diego Chargers

LaDainian Tomlinson’s future with the Chargers might be the most discussed non-Super Bowl story of the week. And it took another interesting turn Thursday. In his chat on NFL.com, analyst Gil Brandt reported that Tomlinson likely will remain with San Diego in 2009.

I was with Norv Turner and Dean Spanos last night and talked at length about LT returning. Mr. Spanos led me to believe that LT would be on their team in 2009. I think the Chargers have a good team. With Merriman back that really helps that defense a lot. And Turner has made some coaching changes. One of the keys to their team next year will be how LT Marcus McNeil plays and if he rebounds from a poor 2008.

I think he has 4-5 more good years in him.

Also for all those LT haters, his worst season was last year. He had 11 rushing TDs and 1,110 rushing yards.

THAT WAS HIS WORST SEASON AS A PRO!

I agree and I think with the proper blocking Lt can be the RB of the past few years. I have a good feeling about 2009 season.

I agree with you and I hope they make the right decisions with the beef because I believe that will make the difference passing and running.

Now we can finally put all this trade/cut crap to rest.

    BEEF!

    Right side OL and DE/DT.

    BEEF!

That was one place we got pushed around. Pit was a prime example.

Damn we missed Merriman this year.

People, I said this in another thread. If LT had a measly 25 extra yards a game in the 16 games (which isn't much at all if you think about it), he would have got 1,500 yards !!!

That's really not that bad at all with the hurt toe the first 3 months of the season.

LT 2009 Comeback player of the year

Brandt doesn’t know ****. LT’s refusal to have surgery is clouding the issue, and even if Spanos offers to restructure, LT still has to accept the pay cut.

But I agree with Brandt about us being better. With Merriman returning and Rivera getting a full offseason to implement his schemes, our defense will at least be acceptable, and the offense should continue to improve with Chud helping out.

I hope it's true... but my evaluation is that this "report" holds no water. Honestly words such as "likely" and phrases like "led me to believe" do absolutely nothing to convince me that LT will be back.

Nothing better than getting home, read the news and find out that LT will probably be a Charger next year!

    Hope it's true!

Good that Spanos has finally said something positive on this. Guy's like LT deserve the respect and support. Playing hurt and still ranking in the top group of running backs says a lot. Other "great running backs" have shone dramatic decreases in their game but LT still put up the numbers. 1000 yard seasons aren't easy for anyone let alone someone hurt in the wheels.:bolt:

Thanks nickel. Here's the part about LT's injury:

"On the news side, Tomlinson said he won’t need surgery on his injured groin after consulting with doctors. He said the injury is coming along and will require one-to-two months of rehabilitation."

I'd still like some confirmation, I don't buy that the doctors advised against surgery.

Don't know where this two months recovery came from either. If true, that is GREAT news.

Yeah... I'm concerned that the team hasn't confirmed LTs comments. But I guess this will be answered when we see the offer he gets.

I really hope he does. LT is my favorite player and has been since I became a Chargers fan 4 years ago. I would literally puke if I ever saw LT end up in a Pats uniform, how I loathe the Pats.
