So much for the owners crying about salaries last year.

I'm so glad he got this and didn't have to settle for the absolute insult that was the $18+ mil franchise tag. I mean my goodness how could anyone play after being insulted as such

It is nice to see a good guy be successful and get paid well

Saints are stupid for agreeing to that much guaranteed money.

No wonder a "cheap seat" is only fifty bucks, the NFL is a tool of the devil and will own your TV next!

goes way beyond what he's worth as a football player. He's Jesus over there (even though he caused his mother to kill herself)

He's a greedy prick. Hopefully he was able to get enough money he'll never spend to stack on top of the money he already has that he will never spend. Tom Condon is happy, his cut was bigger.

He's a weird guy. I don't even care that he hated his mom and cut her out of any financial help after he had her as a friend and agent recently before he did that to her (i don't know all that happened, right?). But what's gross is that he cashed in on the sympathy he got after she killed herself.

Did anyone hate Brees when he was with the Chargers?
    Why the hate now?
I likely won't get any soul-searching answers here, but
I wonder if anyone has really given this any thought...

I didn't hate him but wasn't impressed. Then again, he had Uncle Farty as a coach relying on LT. I imagine Norv from a distance, looked at the offense he created and winced at how the clutch was being ridden. That Drew survived all that is worthy of respect (some credit needs to go to Flutie too!). He is now the greatest dink and dunk passer ever! Surpassing Joe Montanalo

Pretty sure his Mom gave him ample reasons to cut her out of his life. IIRC she was scamming people and using his name in some way to help make it happen. Then, when she was caught and had burned all her bridges she offed herself. What a peach.

I don't blame NFL players for getting as much money as possible when they have the opportunity. C'mon now, don't be jealous guys ;)

Facts are made to be overlooked, Syd. ;)

Brees got his - BFD. Didn't come outta my pocket nor did it affect the Chargers' ability to pay anyone, so I really could give a rat's ***.

I don't hate Brees. I hate Del Mar. I left Opening Day wearing a barrel every year, so I quit going.

... I apologize Del Mar. I could never stay mad at you.

    Dink and dunk?
Brees is @ 6.73 yards per attempt. 8th in the league.
Rivers is @ 7.16 yards per attempt 3rd in the league.
Rogers leads @ 7.60 yards per attempt.
Dink and dunk? I think not.

It's true, I was never a fan of the guy and the bolt brass must not have been either. All that aside, I will say that I believe Marty was one of Drew's biggest problems but I don't miss either.

You think off then. Throwing a short slant and having the receiver run 50 yards is still dink and dunk.

Brees is better at throwing the long ball than he used to be... which is still not grand.

Even Joe Montana could throw most any pass.....BUT his ridiculous numbers were a product of the system and NOT long balls. It is really amazing what PR has done completion percentage wise...those numbers are not yard after catch numbers! I don't have stats but will bet that he is off the charts above any other QB in the history of the league when it comes to a number based on distance of passes, completions and int/TD ratios

Fine, don't be a slouch and do some research, then come back with the numbers. I'm not going to do it for you.
By the way, I'll take that bet.
Something to hold you over until you get back to me:
Since joining the Saints in 2006, Brees has been the most prolific passer in the league, leading all quarterbacks in passing yards, passing touchdowns, completions, attempts and completion percentage.
Okay, I lied, it took me 45 seconds to come up with this:
Your yards per pass attempt stat per career is Brees @ 7.4 and Rivers @8.0
All time leader is Otto Graham @ 9.0
These are yards per attempt, not YAC yards.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Most Pass Yards in NFL Since 2006

    Drew Brees 28,394
    Philip Rivers 24,137
    Eli Manning 22,774
    Tom Brady 21,944
    Peyton Manning
    21,639
