Second-round draft pick Paul Kruger will have to wait at least one more week to make his NFL regular-season debut as the Ravens deactivated the rookie linebacker/defensive end for today's season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs at M&T Bank Stadium.

Tight end L.J. Smith, who had not practiced this week because of a pulled left hamstring, also will not play.

In addition, the Ravens deactivated offensive tackles Oniel Cousins and Tony Moll, defensive tackle Brandon McKinney, running back Jalen Parmele and rookie linebacker Dannell Ellerbe. John Beck will be the third quarterback.

The Chiefs will play without a pair of starters in quarterback Matt Cassel, who had been limited in practice due to a sprained left knee, and cornerback Brandon Flowers, who was also limited with a shoulder injury.

Brodie Croyle will start for Cassel, while rookie Donald Washington is slated to replace Flowers.

Kansas City deactivated linebackers Turk McBride and Pierre Walters, running back Dantrell Savage, guard Andy Alleman and tight end Jake O'Connell.

I think Tyler Thigpen is a better QB than Brodie Croyle...
