I'm glad the Chargers turned it around this year but i think the Defense was the big reason why. I'm not sold on Norv's play calling especially the first drive of a game. Do you think AJ should try to bring back Cam as OC or Assistant Head Coach? Some people just can't handle the head coach and a coordinator positioin at the same time.

I don't think Turner is bad at playcalling. The only calls I questioned were the run on 3rd down at the NE 3, and the decision to punt on 4th and 10 with 6 min left in the 4th. I thought that was a surrender call.

But no game is perfect. If our players had been healthy, we'd have won.

Norv does a fine job calling the game. I think more credit should go to Turner for the playcalls last week in the game winning drive than Volek did.

No, Cameron can go to hell. His ego wouldn't help this team.

their must be an offensive coordinator because Norv can't run the offense and run the team at the same time.

Would Cam have done better with our banged up offense?

    I seriously doubt it.

Last year's offense scored 492 points in the regular season.

This year's offense scored 412 points after a really bad September and some injuries on the offense we didn't have last year.

Put some coaching continuity in there for next season, and we'll score 500 points next season, I'm pretty sure of it.

No, that would be going backward. The Marty era is over, and we need to move on. Cameron did well for us, but we need to move forward not backward.

The team scored 412 but take away the special teams scores and the defensive scores and the offense scored much less. I agree I like Norv's veritcal passing game more but many times he seemed way to conservative and honestly i can't remember a first drive of a game that led to a score. Seems like it's 3 and out. I just think Cam finally mastered our offense in 2006.

Then again it seemed like he got more conservative after LT got pisised after 4 games. Here's to a full offseason and knowing the strengths of the players for a more successful offense next year. :beer

Give this team another year under Norv's playcalling. If it doesn't significantly improve, then I would be for a new OC at the least.

    Brian Billick for OC.

So far, he has not had any offers for head coach. I believe he will become OC some where and I thin he would do great here!!

    You aren't serious are you?

The reason Billick was fired from Baltimore was because, rumored to be an offensive mind, his Ravens showed very little offense the past several years.

I think he did a great job in Minnesota as an OC.

With that said... what talent did he have in Baltimore on the offensive side to work with? That Super Bowl year, I think he got the offense working to their fullest extent.

    Jamal Lewis
    Trent Dilfer
    Jonathan Ogden
    Todd Heap
    Mark Clayton
    Derrick Mason
    Willis McGahee
    Shannon Sharpe

Seriously though Billick has constantly had problems getting anything remotely resembling offense in Baltimore pretty much since he began as a head coach. he hasn't been able to do anything no matter who they bring in.

Are you kidding? Look at what the Ravens did on offense that Super Bowl season? They were average at best. Combined, both their QB threw for fewer yards and TD in 2000 than Rivers did this year. And they only had 8 rushing TD combined from Jamal Lewis and Priest Holmes.

That doesn't cry out offensive genius to me.

It was their defense that won them the Super Bowl and all those postseason games.

    Well yeah.
That Super Bowl season, he had Trent Dilfer, Jonathan Ogden, Shannon Sharpe and Priest Holmes and I think he got that offense playing to their fullest extent.
The other guys weren't around that season.
Since that season, they haven't had a solid QB (with exception of McNair while his heath held up.)

You need more that just a quality player here and a quality player there to make things work.

Again... It's not like he had plenty of talent to work with.
    Trent Dilfer... Solid QB.
    Shannon Sharpe... Great TE
    Priest Holmes... Great RB
    Jamal Lewis... Great RB

What about the job he did in Minnesota as an OC?

Maybe, but their offense has been really struggling every season for a while now.

    2004 - 317 points (20th)
    2005 - 265 points (25th)
    2006 - 353 points (12th)
    2007 - 275 points (24th)

You should also remember that the 2004 and 2006 years had quite a number of defensive TDs scored. Take those away, and the Ravens have struggled to even score 300 points in season.

Even with an average group of offensive players, a good offensive mind should be able to get 21 ppg (or 330 points a season) on a regular basis.

Once again... this thread is NOT about a new head coach.
It is about a possible new OC.
What about the job he did in Minnesota as an OC?

I'd be willing to look at that, but since he took over the playcalling duties from Jim Tressel last year, the Ravens offense has declined.

So, that makes the Minny ordeal seem like centuries ago.

    Cam? Been there, done that.

Billick? Pompous *** - let him go somewhere like the Raiders.

I'm not too sure just what Shelmon's role was/is, but I'm pretty pleased overall with the way this season went. Yesterday stung, but not like last year.

I can't think of an OC right now in the league that I'd go after, unless possibly Chow in order to re-unite him with PR.

No way do I want Cam back. I think we are going to be the best offense in the league under Norv's direction, now that we've established a downfield element with our WR's.

I also have complete confidence that Norv can handle playcalling as well as head coaching duties. Norv went toe to toe with Dungy and Belichick, and handled himself extremely well. Our team was prepared for everything the Colts and Patriots threw at us, we are in good hands with Norv Turner as head coach and OC.

B4L, your infatuation with Billick is borderline creepy.

Norv is a great OC, and there is nobody else I would rather have calling the plays. He found a tremendous rhythm late in the season, and I would love to see that played out over an entire season.
