This is so dumb - reminds me of General Ripper in Dr. Strangelove

No sex, please, you're a carnivore.

A new phenomenon in New Zealand is taking the idea of you are what you eat to the extreme.

Vegansexuals are people who do not eat any meat or animal products, and who choose not to be sexually intimate with non-vegan partners whose bodies, they say, are made up of dead animals.

The co-director of the New Zealand Centre for Human and Animal Studies at Canterbury University, Annie Potts, said she coined the term after doing research on the lives of "cruelty-free consumers".

Cruelty-Free Consumption in New Zealand: A National Report on the Perspectives and Experiences of Vegetarians and other Ethical Consumers asked 157 people nationwide about everything from battery chickens to sexual preferences.

Many female respondents described being attracted to people who ate meat, but said they did not want to have sex with meat-eaters because their bodies were made up of animal carcasses. aren't we all animals anyway?

"It's a whole new thing – I have not come across it before," said Potts.

One vegan respondent from Christchurch said: "I believe we are what we consume, so I really struggle with bodily fluids, especially sexually." Dr. Strangelove moment

Another Christchurch vegan said she found non-vegans attractive, but would not want to be physically close to them.

"I would not want to be intimate with someone whose body is literally made up from the bodies of others who have died for their sustenance," she said. You mean like normal people?

Christchurch vegan Nichola Kriek has been married to her vegan husband, Hans, for nine years.

She would not describe herself as vegansexual, but said it would definitely be a preference.

She could understand people not wanting to get too close to non-vegan or non-vegetarians.

"When you are vegan or vegetarian, you are very aware that when people eat a meaty diet, they are kind of a graveyard for animals," she said.

Most vegans aren't so fanatical, VANDAMAN. It's the ones who want everyone to know they are a vegan and to force their beliefs upon others who are retarded. Most vegans just leave meat and animal byproducts out of their diet and they won't even talk about being vegan unless they are asked. I'm still convinced that a vegan diet, if properly planned, is one of the healthiest diets one can follow. Most vegans have an average BMI whereas I think I read that 70% of americans are technically overweight. This doesn't mean that omnivorous diets can't be healthy either - just eliminate heavily processed foods as much as possible. Drink tea instead of soda, watch your sodium intake, you can get omega fats from fish and fish oil, and eat lean meats and make sure to get at least 4 servings of raw fruits and vegetables a day although you should aim for 6-8. I studied nutrition back in the day so I know this ****. If anyone wants me to plan a healthy diet out for them based on their age BMI and physical activity, let me know I will do it for free. You can greatly reduce your risk for cancer diabetes high blood pressure just by sacrificing your palette a bit.

Vegans who are skin and bones are probably raw vegans (they don't eat cooked food or processed food) who don't eat enough starches or get enough carbs. If your whole diet is fruits and vegetables your nutrient density will be great and you'll get tons of vitamins and minerals but where are you going to get the calories and carbs from? Whole grain bread, rice, nuts and potatoes should be regularly consumed by a vegan along with some processed junk once or twice a week. A lot of vegans drink soy milk and rice milk is a high-carb alternative to soy milk. There's a difference between being skinny and being skin and bones looking like ET the extraterrestrial. The ones with bad appetites that eat just fruits and vegetables and legumes are the ones who look like tammy faye messner in her dying days. There's a right way to be a vegan and a wrong way. Anyone on this board who has high blood pressure and needs to lower their cholesterol should contact me I will help you knock it down for free so you won't need bypass surgery in the future hopefully.

alot of vegetarians let alone vegans have major deficiencies in iron, calcium and amino acids which come from the eating of animals. I think we were designed to have balance between meats, vegetables, starches, dairy and fruits. And the way we were designed to get protein in the best amount is through the eating of meat (fish, chicken, deer, etc).

Yes but these people don't plan their diet properly. It's really easy to get iron and calcium, especially since so many foods are fortified now. Soy protein is a complete protein with all the amino acids and Almonds and other nuts provide high quality protein. Wheat gluten is a good source of protein and of course, fruits and vegetables do contain some protein. Black beans and lentils and grains like quinoa and barley are good sources. I agree it's easier to just eat meat and not have to worry about getting enough protein and b12, but if you plan properly it's not a problem at all. b12 is the main worry for vegans and to a lesser extent vegetarians as a lack of b12 can result in elevated homocysteine levels which is dangerous and can lead to either permanent damage to the nervous system and lead to heart disease as well. getting adequate folate and b vitamins is important to prevent this.

You know I wouldn't call myself a Vegan... I guess the closest I would come is working towards being a semi vegetarian on good days.. I eat fish and poultry much more than even a semi vegetarian... Still working on making those changes.

I will eat some lowfat dairy products and egg beaters though... I take a vitamin B12 supplement daily becuase I don't get the vitamin B12 I should in my diet. I take other supplements as well.

Anyone considering changing their diet, should consult their physician and or a Registered Dietician as the daily recommendations of fruits, grains, veggies is obviously different than that of the meat eaters group.
