    Cedric Benson, a month removed from a Sun Chips-fueled boozy boating excursion with mom gone awry, was charged with drunk driving this morning in Texas. This will surely help to build sympathy for him against what he says were trumped up charges issued during the May 3 incident.

    Austin police said Benson was driving a BMW through downtown Austin between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Saturday. They allege he ran a red light and he was pulled over near the intersection of 5th and Colorado streets, located in the heart of Austin's night life district, said police spokeswoman Veneza Aguinaga.
    Authorities said an officer smelled alcohol on Benson's breath and then conducted a field sobriety test, which included having the driver perform a walk and turn test and to stand on one leg, she said.

    Pfft. Like Benson doesn't fall down prematurely when he's sober, too.

    If I were one of the many attorneys Ced had consulted with following last month's fiasco, staying away from the sauce would have been one of my first nuggets of counsel. The hell with it now. Once dude gets suspended and subsequently released, he can go on the bender to end all benders. I believe they call those Downeys. Hey, he's got some money to burn after Iron Man. You know it's coming.

    A limo wouldn't have helped in the first incident. He got busted sometime while on the boat after this picture.

    You don't think that white bikini is tasty? :icon_huh:

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Bears fans were already wanting to cut him. I bet Bears fans have their pitchforks out and torches lit .... ready to storm Longhorn U and rid themselves of Mr. Benson.
    From the Chicago Tribune link above ....
    He's toast. It's just a matter of when.
    So who is the next RB in Chicago? Has Shaun Alexander signed? Lamont Jordan? Travis Henry?
    88.8% of Chicago Tribune poll respondents want Benson cut.
    Agreed, some of those girls hit every branch of the ugly tree on the way down!!!
    Ghost, I don't think you understand "lighting" its obviously important for C-Benz to have good lighting in his pictures, so he's the type that likes natural light on his digital shots. It's all about creativity and the ambience on the perfect drunken boating trip.
    Hope this illuminates....rim shots!! Yes, I know that was bad!
    Hopefully for Benson the good times on the boat, or at least the photos he held on to, were worth the millions he lost with his decision to not let someone else drive.
    The real question is can go three for three?
    Capture the coveted Hat Trick/Triple Crown of drinking?
    Benson is two thirds of the way there, I want him to make history and not only fly a plane drunk, but get arrested for FWI or PUI or whatever the appropriate acronym is.
    This would indeed be legendary. Cedric, face it, nobody is going to remember you for being part of a team that lost in the Super Bowl, unless your name is Scott Norwood or Tony Eason. Now is your chance to be famous! Grab a twelve pack and go for it!
    Cedric Benson is on thin ice already in Chicago and he feels the urge to jump up and down to make the ice break and drown him
    He hits the hole like a candy ***.
    Someone will claim him off waivers. His base salary isn't much.
    Florio at pft.com is already speculating on Benson going to the Donkeys. Again, with a low 2008 base salary, I think teams will be racing to drop a waiver claim on him. Why not? It doesn't cost much and they can always just cut him in camp.
    Waiver claims go by draft order ..... so, this is the list on who can put in first dibs for Benson:
    1 Miami Dolphins
    2 St. Louis Rams
    3 Atlanta Falcons
    4 Oakland Raiders
    5 Kansas City Chiefs
    6 New York Jets
    7 San Francisco 49ers
    8 Baltimore Ravens
    9 Cincinnati Bengals
    10 New Orleans Saints
    11 Buffalo Bills
    12 Denver Broncos
    I don't think the Donks will have a shot at Benson.
    Any team making a waiver claim on Benson will only be responsible for his $820,000 2008 base salary - IF he makes the final 53 man roster.
    Cutting Benson would create no savings for Bears
    It's only expensive for the Bears. His next team gets a whopping $820,000 cap hit by burning the $100 waiver wire fee.
    Somebody will claim him. That's two years for less than $2 million.
    Classic :bolt:
    10 New Orleans Saints
    11 Buffalo Bills
    12 Denver Broncos
    Those 11 teams would have to pass on a waiver claim before the Donks have a shot at him. Someone will spend the $100 waiver fee before the Donks.
    Miami has Sticky Ricky coming back, St. Louis has Stephen Jackson, Atlanta has Turner and Norwood, Oakland has McFadden and the other 17, KC has LJ, the Jets have Thomas Jones, who we all now know is better than Benson, San Fran has Gore, Baltimore - McGahee, Cinci is on the police blotter too much as it is, New Orleans already has a second overall RB bust, Buffalo has Lynch, and Denver has a coach who gets a hard on for every single first round bust that hits the waiver wire and a second year udfa pencilled in their 2008 starter.
