The Chargers’ Super Bowl window may be starting to shrink, because they might have some roster issues with some of their most talented players, including ballhawking starting cornerback Antonio Cromartie(notes).

Reporting for the San Diego Union-Tribune, SN correspondent Kevin Acee writes that team officials may look to trade Cromartie in the offseason to free up some money to sign other key players.

One of those players is running back Darren Sproles(notes), who stands to make $7.3 million in 2010 if he’s tendered as a restricted free agent without a long-term deal in place.

The Chargers would also need to put in a high tender — worth a first- and third-round pick — for wide receiver Vincent Jackson(notes), to protect against teams signing him to an offer sheet they can’t match.

Of course, there’s that little decision on what to do with LaDainian Tomlinson(notes) as well. Tomlinson failed to rush for 100 yards in any game this season, and could be released.

So the Chargers have less of a chance at the Superbowl without Cromartie?

I was hoping that Cromartie would finish the season strong so he would have some trade value. After the last game I can't imagine getting a six pack for him.

Cromartie increases our chances of catching an std, that's about it.

I don't even want Sproles back to be honest. He's not worth the money. He didn't earn his money this year, and with a raise coming we'd be stupid to pay a utility guy that amount. Draft a stud rb and get rid of the 13 million dollar backfield we have now. 13 mill gets you 31st ranked running game...that sucks.

See ya cromartie, and don't let the door hit you on your fruit bowl on the way out.

I might tend to agree with you on this. The guy is outstanding when he gets a nice whole on either running plays, kicks offs or punts,,,,,,but then again, anyone would be. I can't stand watching his *** get lit up on returns as soon as a guy hits him it looks like a dog getting hit by a car. We need a guy that get hit and stay on his feet.

Can they put a mark on Jackson's contract? Like if he so much gets a parking ticket, he'll lose a percentage of his pay?

I had to laugh at that ball hawking too. He hasn't hawked a ball since 2007.

The fact that he was called a *****/Coward on national TV does not help his trade value. Maybe some GM with a hardon for his "Skillz" will give us a 2nd....

Not just full on hits either, almost anything. His size worked in college, but this is the NFL.

I doubt he was a "stick his nose in there" player at FSU. He only played 2 yrs of CFB and that was as a part-time starter. He blew out his knee pre-season Jr. year.

Wonder if any FSU alum around here watched him play.

A longterm Sproles contract won't be 7m a year. It will be much less. Sproles should stay. LT definitely needs to call it a day.

I am wondering what the coaches are saying, thinking, telling Cromartie about his lack of tackling. Does anyone think he just gets a free pass from playing any type of physical defense. Game film does not lie and I just know that when a player acts like a vagina he usually hears about it in the film sessions in front the entire team unit.

LOL. Had a reading comprehension failure. I was thinking about Cro...

Sproles is dynamic, but yeah he gets taken down if he gets hit. Not much yards after contact.

Cason is the type of corner they rarely promote these days--a pure coverage, tackling corner like Jammer with the potential to lock down opponents while not making a single pro bowl.

Thanks for usurping his playing time, Cro

Running away from Chris Johnson must of cost him a ration of ****.

I'd trade Cro for any pick in the top 40, nothing less. An athlete like that will always get teams interested, and theres always a coach convinced he can teach an uncoachable player.

Regarding Cromartie, I worry about any disciple of Deion Sanders..."Cro" is a very talented athlete but frankly I question his heart, his drive and his (lack of ) common sense. I say we package him with a draft pick and go get somebody really good prior to pick #28.

Sproles is not a feature back, his strengths are speed, good hands and the ability to make people miss in the open field. If somebody is willing to give him a wheelbarrow full of money, he is out of here. If that happens, we will probably pick up a return specialist in the later rounds...for a lot less than $6m to $7m a year.

I would still like to see us fortify our offensive and defensive lines early in the draft. As always, it will come down to the "best available athlete" when our pick comes up. Is it draft day yet?

Some people are idiots for thinking our window would shrink without Cromartie. Whoever wrote that article, obviousely remembers his 10 INT season and nothing else.

    We are BETTER without Cromartie.

If we all see Cromartie's lack of heart and effort, I'm sure AJ and the coaching staff does as well in game film.

Cro's days are numbered in Bolt town.

    Exactly. Everybody shussssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Stop telling the world what a waste of space Cro is. We need somebody as dumb and useless as him to come in for him and give us more than a 6 pack for his ***.

I cannot believe I wore his shirt in London and SD. Never again. Methinks I will be getting me an M80 shirt or something.

Btw anyone have a quick link to his whiff on Greene?, I couldn't be arsed watching all the lowlights to get to that bit.

I think AJ saw this coming. He drafted Antoine Cason in the first round for a reason. I hope we can trade him for a good draft pick or a Running back. Pierre Thomas,Felix Jones. Something like that would be good for us.

I love that people think that our "window is closing"......I'm not even mad about it...I like it better when we fly under the radar....It's funny how east coast teams can lose big names (ie. Dawkins leaving Philly) and they're always projected to be a primary SB contender....and we might lose an overhyped wannabe Deion Sanders like Cromartie...and all of a sudden we're the Raiders.

If we trade Cromartie and actually get a decent pick in return (2nd or 3rd rounder)...I'll be more than happy.

This roster is stocked with a LOT of young talent across the board. We have a top 5 franchise QB in place and in his prime....and we will get the anchor of our defense back for at least another couple of years in Jamal Williams....only this time we have figured out out to sub in a nice rotation of D Linemen so he doesn't have to carry the weight of the defense on his shoulders all season.

We could lose EVERY SINGLE ONE of our UFA's....EVERY ONE....and still be the best team in the AFCW.....and that's not happening....We will at least find a way to keep VJ and McNeill....and probably Floyd too.....and there is still a good chance we'll be bringing back Sproles....We draft as well as anyone and 2/3rds of our starting DLine is returning.....Yeah...we're done for if we lose Cro. :rolleyes2:

What I am wondering if he did get any ****? It seems maybe not if Cro continues to back off and play ole defense. I could never see Jammer playing that way. I want Cromartie sent away and fast.
