    Chargers add 17 free agents

In 2003, it was Antonio Gates, Kris Dielman, Kassim Osgood, Jacques Cesaire and Stephen Cooper.

A year later, the Chargers signed wide receiver Malcom Floyd as an undrafted free agent. In 2005, linebacker Marques Harris made the squad after going undrafted. In 2006, free agents Steve Gregory and Cletis Gordon contributed to the Chargers’ success, and last fall, Jyles Tucker made his mark despite not hearing his name called at the draft podium.

On Monday, the Chargers added 17 undrafted rookie free agents who look to follow in their footsteps, including two players with local ties. University of San Diego outside linebacker Eric Bakhtiari and San Diego State guard Brandyn Dombrowski will have a chance to continue their football careers in the same city in which they played collegiately.

The 2008 free agent group includes four wide receivers. Missouri’s Greg Bracey, Troy’s Gary Banks, Brandon Jackson from North Texas and former Texas Longhorn Billy Pittman will learn from Chargers wide receivers coach Charlie Joiner. The Chargers also added tight end John Tereshinski of Wake Forest and H-back Roy Betschart, who played his college ball at Wyoming.

After drafting offensive tackle Corey Clark in the seventh round Sunday, the Bolts added Missouri tackle Tyler Luellen, Maryland guard Andrew Crummey and Dombrowski to compete along the offensive line.

Fullback Mike Tolbert from Coastal Carolina rounds out the offensive free agents.

The Chargers didn’t spend a draft pick on a defensive lineman this weekend but signed two free agents. Tennessee State defensive tackle Lamar Divens and defensive tackle Keith Shologan from Central Florida join Wayne Nunnely’s group. Bakhtiari played defensive end for the Toreros but moves to outside linebacker in the Chargers’ 3-4 scheme.

Cornerback Josh Bell, who played for Chargers secondary coach Bill Bradley at Baylor, joins the Bolts’ defensive backfield. Texas Christian safety Brian Bonner and Idaho cornerback Stanley Franks, who intercepted nine passes as a junior in 2006, also signed with the Bolts Monday.

Wyoming punter/kicker Billy Vinnedge also joins the Chargers’ mix.

That would be pretty cool if the San Diego kids were able to make the roster and contribute. I sure do love this time of year.

if one OL and one DL from that group sticks around it will be very successful UDFA signings.

P.S. there's another thread about this

There's that OL and DL beef people have been crying for. Obviously, AJ didn't see much worth taking with an actual draft pick after that insane first 25 picks, so he decided to wait for the UDFA and FA cuts to raid the market for beef.

Looks like all of the passes he caught in the video were on throws from Vince Young in 06. Any highlights from 2007???

Hope he shows something to end up on practice squad!

Does anyone know if Michigan State's RB Jehuu Caulcrik was signed by anyone as a free agent? Watching him lpay reminds me of a combination of Michael Turner, Larry Csonka and the human bowling ball Don Nottingham.

I think he'd be a good change of pace back behind LT. :abq1:

Alright! More University Of Wyoming players going to the Chargers.
Wade Betschart lived just down the road from me. He is one tough kid. Very good character. Outstanding work ethics. He set a new lifting record for tight end at UW. Wade started out as a tight end and for the last couple of years a fullback / tight end. Good blocker. Good luck Wade. :icon_toast:

looks like the Jets Jets Jets signed him

    http://www.thejetsblog.com/?p=4104

The Jets have signed another Running Back. Jehuu Caulcrick (6′0″ 255 lbs) was formerly a Michigan State Spartan RB, who was used in goal line situations for the team, totalling 21 touchdowns in his senior campaign.

The Jets were one of five teams who were interested in signing Caulcrick as an undrafted free agent after the running back was not selected tin he seven rounds of the draft. The other calls Caulcrick fielded were from the Buffalo Bills, the Carolina Panthers, the St. Louis Rams and the Indianapolis Colts.

“Carolina and the Jets showed the biggest interest,” Caulcrick said. ”I talked to the Bills, but the circumstances weren’t right.”

He’s the fullback type, and he’s the thumper style player that Mangini likes. All the same, with Tony Richardson in place, Caulcrick might be someone who the Jets will use this summer, and might have an outside shot at competing for a spot with Stacy Tutt.

Pittman only caught 11 passes on 07. He was suspended three games for borrowing a car and had some injury issues. By borrowing a car I don't mean he stole it, he just violated NCAA rules by having a nice ride.
