The Chargers are staying in San Diego for the 2016 in hopes of negotiating a stadium deal with the city, team owner Dean Spanos said in a statement Friday.

Here's the full statement from Spanos:

Today I decided our team will stay in San Diego for the 2016 season and I hope for the long term in a new stadium.

I have met with Mayor Faulconer and Supervisor Roberts and I look forward to working closely with them and the business community to resolve our stadium dilemma. We have an option and an agreement with the Los Angeles Rams to go to Inglewood in the next year, but my focus is on San Diego.

This has been our home for 55 years, and I want to keep the team here and provide the world-class stadium experience you deserve.

Everyone on both sides of the table in San Diego must now determine the best next steps and how to deploy the additional resources provided by the NFL.

I am committed to looking at this with a fresh perspective and new sense of possibility.

With deep appreciation for your years of support.

Either he's using the Inglewood agreement as negotiation leverage against SD, or he's just saying this crap to try and fill seats until he goes up to LA. I want so bad for it to be the first option, but my pessimism keeps telling me it's the second one.

Dude, it's leverage. He'll be a mere tenant in LA and won't make **** for profit.

And I'm totally fine with that if that's his ultimate goal. It's just hard to trust this guy after being jerked around for so long. I WANT to believe he wants to stay in SD, but it's difficult.

As a season ticket holder, I got this :

I am writing to let you know that I have decided the Chargers will remain here in San Diego for the 2016 season and I hope for the long term in a new stadium.

I have met with Mayor Faulconer and Supervisor Roberts and I look forward to working closely with them and the business community to resolve our stadium dilemma.

We will bring a fresh perspective and new sense of possibility to this effort, and my goal is to keep the team here in San Diego and provide the world-class stadium experience you deserve.

I know you want to see us get back to winning as much as I do. So please be assured we have already begun taking the essential steps to set up the Chargers for success on the field in 2016.

Again, thank you for your support and patience.

    Sincerely,

    Statement from Roger Goodell

We are very supportive of the decision by Dean Spanos to continue his efforts in San Diego and work with local leaders to develop a permanent stadium solution.

NFL ownership has committed $300 million to assist in the cost of building a new stadium in San Diego. I have pledged the league's full support in helping Dean to fulfill his goal.

Told ya Stan would chase him off. There is no reason to want to share a market with anyone, much less a bungler like Dean Spanos.

Where it'll get interesting is with the Raiders, who have NO options.

Dean has a sh*tty deal already in place to move to the Kroenke Megaplex if push comes to shove. The onus is now on the City of SD to get a stadium proposal approved by the voters (citizen's initiative is another path perhaps) A sh*tty deal is still better than no deal and no stadium. As much as I despise the Spanoses for whom they really are, I can not blame him for playing his hands in this manner to ensure the survival of his business and franchise.

I have already sworn that I will not support a Spanos owned Chargers team, irrespective of where they play but for the sake of the County where I live and the ardent loyal supporters of the Chargers in the City, I still wish for the team to remain in where they have been for the last 50+ years.

Good new for Bolt fans everywhere. Just hope the Raiders get something done elsewhere in case the Bolts do move the city might be able to lure another team.

Deano first needs to fire Fabioni if he "really" wants me to take his Greek asz seriously. Fabioni's attitude about the whole thing really "grinds m gears".

But did he really chase him off?

It seems to me he merely gave him incentive to consider San Diego again. But if the voters vote no on a stadium vote it still likely makes more sense for Dean to accept Kronke's deal.

I was initially confused, but after thinking about it, the only way Dean doesn't stay in San Diego for 2016 would be if Kronke gave him some kind of sweetheart deal that highly favors the Chargers, which of course wouldn't ever happen.

Barring that it makes the most obvious sense to attempt to finagle one last deal in San Diego and then see which one favors his interests the most before ultimately deciding on January 15th next year.

That's great, hope it is legit and all works out.

I still support but not dishing out $2200 for season tickets this year. Last year was too horrible of a feeling.

I think the Spanos' needed to wake SD and the people up, as well as see what they could arrange in LA to protect the business.

I'm listening to the mighty 1090 all day and now Ron Roberts is on and he said he spoke with Dean and a lot of this decision came from his kids which are going to eventually end up with the team want to stay in San Diego.

The Spanos' have shown IMHO they wanted to be in SD. But I can't say the city has really shown they want to keep the Charger. I say 'city', do not confuse that with the fans.

Th NFL upping their offer to 100 million gratis to build in SD and 200 million in low interest loans almost fully covers what was needed in public funds. If SD does not get something done now, the it is the city that wants the relationship to end.

Ball is in the city's court. They better not drag feet either.

I'm renewing mine, even though I had the same feeling last season. Me staying home every Sunday would drive my wife & kids crazy. :D

So Dean's not packing up his performance issues and moving to LA?
Did he suddenly discover that NFL Owner Viagra comes in 5,000 mg doses?

A refurb of the Murph (**** Qualcomm) can be done for the price of the relocation fee. That would be in the city's best interest, and wouldn't cost Dean any more than what the NFL is chipping in. After all, we all know he's a cheap ****. ;)

It's nice to see Spanos staying in SD for 2016. And his statement sounded like the most humble public expression in what feels like years. He is at least saying or suggesting that he's open to staying when previously it was more "give me what i want or F off".

And (if you believe what he said on Scott & BR) Ron Roberts told Mighty 1090 that he, Faulconer and Spanos met earlier today in La Jolla

This is great news for today, but if a deal doesn't get done before the season that stadium is going to be grim as the grave come September.
