After watching the Chiefs today I have my doubts. Then again after watching Cutlet today the same can be said for Denver.  :bolt:

Are you sure about that? We must be getting into some very low tiebreakers.

Playing devil's advocate let's assume we beat TEN and KC beats DEN.
Records are 8-5 (3-1 in division, 7-3 in conference) and 5-8 (2-3 in division, 5-5 in conference).

IF we lost out and Denver won out, both teams would be 8-8, 3-3 in division and 7-5 in the AFC. The head-to-head would be a split.

Next two tiebreakers are strength of victory and strength of schedule. Not sure how the first one is computed.

This whole exercise is making my head hurt...just run the table and be done with it.

Common opponents record comes before AFC record

    http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/standings/playoffrace/tiebreakers-explanation

Common opponents are Tennessee, Jacksonville, Indy, Houston, Green Bay, Minnesota, Detroit, Oakland (x2), Kansas City (x2), and Chicago

If KC and SD win next week, but then SD loses out and Denver wins out after that

    SD
    Oakland: W, L
    KC: L, W
    Ten: W
    Jax: L
    Indy: W
    Houston: W
    Green Bay: L
    Detroit: L
    Min: L
    Chicago: W

    record: 6-6

    Denver
    Oakland: W, L
    KC: W, L
    Ten: W
    Jax: L
    Indy: L
    Houston: W
    Green Bay: L
    Detroit: L
    Minnesota: W
    Chicago: L

    record: 5-7

I'm not sure if they count divisional opponents in that or not, though, but even if they don't, San Diego would be 4-4 against the rest, while Denver would be 3-5

    Any rate

    http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/standings/playoffrace/scenarios

(but I posted this thread before Sportsline updated that :D)

All this is meaningless if we beat Denver and Oakland again, even if we lose to Tennessee(not likely at the moment) and Detroit(even less likely). So root, root, root for the home team. I don't see why we can't run the rest of the table.

I obviously want us to run the table.

An 8-8 division championship wouldn't look too good and they'd be backing into the playoffs.
(obviously I'd take it over 9-7 and out of the playoffs, but you catch my drift)

But it'd be nice if the Chiefs could help us wrap it up now, anyways :D

If we win the division next week, do we sit the starters or play them for one quarter and then bring in the back ups?

I would hate to go into the playoffs cold but the starters health needs to be weighed carefully.

He preceeded the post with if, there is no jinx.

A jinx would be if he said "when" or just asked if we should do so next week without first discussing the possible outcomes of the games.

I do not want to clinch it too early. That is not part of the master plan which your boy is coattailing off of my prognoistications but I let it ride.

As Leo said I said "IF" beyotch.

The Chargers need to EARN every inch this year for putting the fans through all the embarassments of 5 losses. The KC loss here at home would have had the "chosen one" with an unblemished record here at home.

And besides, what the fuc are you complaning about? If we clinch early, your boy Volek lights it up and gives you the fire and ammo to start another jihad against the QB's. You miss the old days? Admit it! You want to see a Rivers Volek war. So do I but this time I like them both.

This games smells of the Vikings game. WR is out and ...... I called a trap game against the Vikes and this one is ranking right up there.

No way this is a trap game. Our guys know what's going on and I'm sure they're well aware of who they face this week. Titans are a very good football team and the battles in the tranches will be epic in this one. I'm so looking forward to this game and this game will give us a good idea of how how we stack up against potential playoff teams.

Play physical Chargers football and we win. :bolt:

They have to win. And then, they have to still beat the Raiders at the end of the season to keep the streak alive. And beating the donks at home on Christmas eve. This is super important. They can't sleep on anything and have not gotten themselves into anything even resembling playoff form. Fight every down!

A few differences. The Vikes game was played a week after the post-fire game, which saw these guys travel to AZ for a week of practice before playing an emotionally draining game and then traveling to Minny. I called trap game there, too. But I think the trap games are done. The Bolts are focused now. It may not always be pretty, but they will find a way to win.
