Bramlet, 27, joins starter Philip Rivers as well as reserves Billy Volek and Charlie Whitehurst on the Chargers' depth chart.

The well-traveled Bramlet serves as an insurance policy for San Diego, which saw Rivers undergo ACL reconstruction surgery at the end of January and has placed Whitehurst on the trading block.

The 6-4, 230-pound Bramlet, who was a seventh-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2004 draft, also has spent time with the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons and Dolphins in his brief career. He has yet to log a passing attempt in the NFL.
