San Francisco- by way of CBS

Revenge is a dish best served cold- and the Chargers (4-1) finally served up a little cold revenge to the San Francisco 49ers (who cares) yesterday, handing the once mighty 49ers a 48-19 bowl of icy gruel to eat. While this can never make up for the whipping the Niners handed San Diego in the Super Bowl- it's a good start. Marty Schottenheimer abandoned the martyball theory, electing to throw with abandon from anywhere on the field, and damned if it didn't work.

It's a lot easier to manage the clock with a 20-point lead than a 6 point one. Ladainian Tomlinson and Phillip Rivers combined for 6 touchdowns, with LT cashing in four of them, and Rivers finding Antonio Gates and Vincent Jackson for the other 2. San Diego looked like the best team in football at times yesterday, while SF looked confused and out of sync on defense. Said former Charger DB Sammy Davis about the Chargers offensive prowess yesterday, "When you think they're playing something, they're probably playing something else." This explains why Davis is a Niner, Clueless; one would think that 3 years on the Chargers roster would have given him one...

San Diego got off to a flying start, with Rivers hitting 13 of his first 15 passes, and looking like he is going to be the next Tom Brady. Rivers showed command, and great selection in looking for the open man. PR hit SF's defense for a career best 337 yards and those 2 TD's. When asked about the game plan yesterday, Tomlinson said "When (Rivers) is in a rhythm like that I'm like, 'OK, keep throwing it.' Why try to pound it?"

Why Indeed??? Marty ball died yesterday, lets hope we can keep it from coming back as a zombie for Halloween...

I am going to skip the intense analysis of yesterday's affair, as one does not dissect a Picasso, and it would be 5000 extra words. 48 points is the best birthday present I could have ever asked for, as I turn 43 on Tuesday.

Lets just say that the Chargers looked like the team we all think that they can be. A GREAT one!!!

SF QB Alex Smith looked like given time and talent around him, could develop into a great QB, but whether he plays long enough to outlive the 49ers front office mistakes of the past 10 years, we will see. Smith kept the Niners close at first, 7-7,14-10 and 28-17. But, Smith was continually hounded by San Diego's front seven, with Shawn Phillips having the game of his life. Shawne Merriman also got untracked, recording 6 tackles and a sack. Luis Castillo had an interception, as well as a sack at the end that iced things,

This is exactly what the Chargers need to do every game, dominate the ball on both sides, and dominate the opponent on both sides. This dominance allowed the Charger offense to keep it loose, and unpredictable. There were several moments when Marty ball would have been acceptable football strategy during the 2nd half, but Marty turned into Sid Gilman, throwing even from the Charger 3 yard line. This cost the Chargers a safety, but safety was exactly the opposite of the game plan, which was go for it. I am hearing NO complaints from the peanut gallery today...

Ironically, with a point more for San Diego, and one more TD for SF, and we would have had the score from the Super Bowl in reverse. Somewhere, Stan Humphries, and Boss Ross are smiling and crushing little Steve Young figures...

Watching the Niner fans suffer and leave early was tonic for the soul, Niner fans are really insufferable, especially when they are drunk. One thing I am trying to teach my fellow fans is "Lets win with some class". Even though I enjoyed watching Niner fans eat a big s#$% sandwich, I know how they feel. Losing sucks, and hurts. And I hope Niner fans get to dine on this flavor for quite a while yet, God knows we Charger fans have had our fill, at the buffet of pain... The real trick now for the Chargers is to parlay this success into more success.

Kansas City awaits, another town full of people who have had LOTS of laughs at San Diego's expense. Time to send the Arrowhead faithful home unhappy.
game time is 10 am pacific on CBS.
    Where was the HD yesterday??...
It's the NFL, spend the money...
