Hey everyone, I'd just like to introduce myself.
My name is Christian, I'm a Chargers fan from Australia, I love the Chargers and have loved them ever since I became interested in the NFL In 2009. NFL isn't real big in Australia and I'm so glad I took the chance to get to know it and since I did, I have fallen in love with this Chargers team and watch every single game and wouldn't have it any other way.
My favourite players are: Rivers, Gates, Phillips, Weddle, Cason, Mathews, Floyd and Vinnie Brown who is injured:(
Great start to the year, 2-0 and It's looking like it's going to be a successful season for our boys.
Falcons next week, at home and I think we've got a great chance, I can't wait. I love versing top teams, but most of all I love beating them! Bring it on! CHARGERS!!!

Welcome to the forum. I'm a lifelong Chargers fan from California. I just spent the last year in Australia but am now in Mauritius. It's a great country and I was surprised to find there was so much enthusiasm for the NFL there. I watched the Super Bowl last year at the Star City Casino in Sydney on the biggest screen I've ever seen.

What part of Australia are you from?

    Cheers for the welcome!
I'm from Sydney in NSW, but the part of Sydney i'm from are mostly into NRL(Rugby League) and NFL isn't followed too much there.
Did you only visit Sydney Boltsbound? I've been to Melbourne and it also a very nice place. I wouldn't mind living there, but i prefer Sydney. My dream is to visit Qualcomm one day and watch a few Chargers games. Would anyone be able to give me an estimate of how much a ticket would cost in Australian dollars?

I have not been to a game in a few years, but assuming aussie/us dollars about 1:1, I'd say anywhere from $65 to $200 depe

I have not been to a game in a few years, but assuming aussie/us dollars are a about 1:1, I'd say anywhere from $65 to $200 depending on the game and where you wanted to sit. If you do go to a game, you must show up a few hours early for the Bolttalk tailgater.

I was all over in Australia. Sydney, Tasmania, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin. Did not make it to Melbourne.

    What is the bolttalk tailgate?
If you go to australia, go to melbourne it is a very nice place. Brisbane is even nicer, especially in summer!
$65 would be great! But in saying that, I'd pay $200 to see the Chargers play if i had to.

A big barbie in the parking lot prior to the game. We refer to these as tailgate parties here in the states, when you a bbq in the parking lot before a sporting event. Much food and drink. Great time.

Ah, of course! I've seen those tailgate barbecues on madden before and always wondered why no Australian sports do that, that looks like a brilliant idea and one i'd be keen to partake in if i was to go to a chargers game.
That would be very exciting newjerseydamo! hopefully the boys can get a win for you against the broncs. I know i love a win against the broncs.

G'day to our Aussie brethren!!!. Welcome to the board.

Christian, you gotta get to a game at the Q and experience the tailgate. The lads here on on Bolttalk and those from the (now defunct) Boltbunker put on an unbelievable spread. A number of us EuroBolts went over in 09 and they looked after us so so well. We're all saving ever since to get back!!!.

There was some talk of a few of us going to Tampa in Nov (some guys are going) but I don't have the $ so have had to cry off.

Hopefully 2013 will be kinder to us and we get to see another game in the flesh and meet up with all the BT brothers and sisters again!.

Thanks for the welcome, Dublin bolt!
It is so amazing to see bolts fans all over the world like us!
Oh my, this excites me so much! One day i will go yo america and i will see the boys play! It's just a matter of when, but I would be keen to experience the tailgate. I have never heard of it before tbh, but it sounds absolutely awesome! Sports events in Australia should adapt the idea.

Welcome to the newest member of the asylum ;-)

Rest assured you are not alone; we have fans from London & Ireland to Germany to China to Iraq and now Australia. We actually have a nice contingent in Europe that attend the games in London/Dublin and they make it out to the west coast sometimes for the games as well. Don't forget as well to download the podcast every week on iTunes ;-)

Question; how'd you get into football?

Thanks a lot for the nice welcome everyone!
I'm shocked that there is so much support from all around the world, it amazes me that our brothers and sisters all around the world are sharing the same passion as us and they support the mighty bolts just as much as we do.

    To answer your question;
I first started watching nfl when i was at my uncles house one time, early in the morning and i loved it pretty much from the moment that i first saw it.
I started following the chargers in '09 and i bought a Tomlinson jersey that year, the following year i bought a Darren Sproles jersey and last year i Bought a Rivers jersey to add to the collection.

    Question for everyone;
I know that I can't stand everything about the Denver Broncos. But how do Chargers fans in the US go about our rivalries? If you had to rate them from most hated to least hated, what would it be? Or are they all equal? I just hate the broncos because of how their fans carried on when they were 6-0 a few years back. They carried on like they were going to win the SB and they finished on 8-8 and missed the play-offs. That was a joyful moment for me.

As far as the hate goes, everyone is different but the top five will usually have similar teams. Personally I rank them as:

    1. Oakland Raiders (top to bottom)
    2. Denver Broncos (the ego and the fans self righteousness)
    3. New England Patriots (I don't like Boston to begin with, their fans are so snobby and self righteous as to be impossible)
    4. New York Jets (see Patriots fans except for the fact I like NY and their team doesn't have squat on their resume)
    5. Chicago Bears (Jay Cutler)/New York Giants (Eli Manning)

I don't even put the Chiefs on this because I've always gotten along well with Chiefs fans and they're the best group out of the other AFC West fans. Nowhere near as bad as the Raiders or Broncos.

Thanks for that mate, it helps me understand the rivalries a lot more!
I personally don't hate the Chiefs either tbh.
Idk why, i just havn't had any sort of bad experiences with them as I have in chats with Raiders and Denver fans. I mean, their our rivals and a win against them is as good as any, but they're alright as opposed to the other 2 afc west teams.
I hate all the talk that the broncos were getting with Tebow last year, it was over the top and made me hate them even more.
I also hate the jets, solely because of the loss in the divisional game a few years ago.
I also hate the Arrogance of Jay Cutler. He is a cocky bloke and I dislike him for that. Although I don't mind Matt Forte because he is in my fantasy team this year, hopefully he recovers soon and serves my team well. Does anyone else play fantasy?

I seem to take things to the extreme. After being a Season Ticket holder for 32 years, I have been kicked out of four Raider games. Because I was a season ticket holder, after I was tossed from one game, I went to my truck and got my extra ticket. I went back in!

Today the NFL is cracking down on fans fighting, I received a certified letter in the mail stating that my season ticket holder status was being taken away.

I guess you can say when I took the name SDRaiderH8er, I really meant it. I do hate the Raiders, and the Raider fans in turn do not like me. A thread was started a few years ago at Raiderfans.net about the worst Charger fans, myself and Carlsbad Bolt fan made that honor roll. Just before that a thread was started at Raiderfans.net asking the Raider fans if they have ever cried after a game. Needless to say, I was banned from Raiderfans.net without even signing up.

    Living so far away from SD means I don't have the face to face 'hate' relationship with the Raiders and their fans. Having said that I was in the Coliseum once and did not get a friendly welcome!. Here are the teams I 'hate'/see as our most bitter rivals;

    1. Broncos - because they are in our division and have always been a cocky bunch
    2. Raiders - again division rivals with fans we love to hate
    3. Patriots - the whole Belichick Brady things makes me puke and we've had so many battles with them where we have come away on the losing end. The playoff game in SD where McCree gifted them a lifeline is my worst memory ever (closely followed by the Jets loss in the playoffs and the reg season loss to the Pats in 07 in Foxboro, which I attended)
    4. Giants - because of Eli
    5. Bears - because of Cutler
    6. Jets - because of Rex and Cro and formerly LT, and because they had our no. in the playoffs
    7. Steelers - because they are always so tough and seem to beat the sh1t out of us all the time (you could also respect them for this reason of course)

KC are ok in my book. When Gonzalez was there he used kill us though as did Jared Allen.

We're basically on the same page. I throw Dallas in the mix just because there are so many obnoxious Cowboys fans around my area. I guess it's an anti-Redskins response.

I also don't really like the Ravens, because of all the hype that they always get.
They might deserve it, but it just annoys me. And the Jets, because they have Tebow.

Hold on! This is going to need a bit more detail. How'd the fight start? And end?

And you're getting booted for a fight from last year??

last year to make a long story short, BFISA over at SignOnSanDiego (Toby) sat right next to me, when he was walking down the aisle a young Raider fan stood up and almost knocked Toby over, my oldest son seen this and confronted him my son told this punk that he almost knocked a Purple Heart winner over, his response was "FVCK The Military" Well needless to say a lot of people wearing red jackets showed up really quickly. Their supervisor was trying to get to the bottom of everything, I told him that these young punks in front liked to stand up and then his response to my son's question, I was told they could do that. I then informed that supervisor he might as well get the hell out of there, WE'LL take care of it. Now the Raider fan behind me who was cheering when Marcus McNiel went off the field on the cart, told me to mind my own business. I asked him who the fvck he was trying to tell me what to do. He got the first punch in, but I got the last. The year before that I got into it with the husband of some Raider Biatch who liked to dance right in front of me after every score, then when I asked her to sit down, she flipped me off, I wont hit a woman but can you count a Raider fan as a woman? The two times before that I would not put up with the crap coming out of the Raider fans mouths.

It could have been anything that set me off, but what really got me was when the Raider fan was actually cheering as McNiel was taken off the field on that cart. I knew right then I was not going to make it through the night.

Welcome aboard, so which is it? Or did the NFL get a growth spurt in its' popularity in Australia between '09 and '11? You'll find a lot of good folks here all with one thing in common, loving the Bolts. Some of us live and die following the Chargers. I was too young to enjoy the AFL Champion(blissfully unaware of the Bolts at the time).

My first game attended was back in '68 or '69. I remember seeing Lance Alworth, play that was sweet. Great memories. I was there for the Holy Roller game in 1978, I still maintain that was not a fumble but rather an incomplete forward pass. Stabler knew he was going to be sacked on fourth down and the game would be over. That was not such a good memory at all. I still get pissed about it 34 years later, god damned raiders.
