    San Diego- hotter than heck...

It AIN'T supposed to be this easy, is it? In one of the finest football games I have ever seen the Chargers play, San Diego (2-0) smoked the Tennessee Titans (0-2), to the tune of 40-7. Somewhere, in the back of my brain, I can feel some of my DNA re-knitting itself. I guess if you live long enough as a Charger fan, you see it all, both good and bad. This was the kind of game any Charger fan dreams of. Crisp, focused, and precise. Words to describe either side of the ball yesterday for the Chargers, who made the Titans look like a deer in the headlights.

Not quite broiling, but plenty hot, Sunday afternoon's heat is our reverse Buffalo weather home field advantage. 100 degrees is just as effective as 22 degrees, you can't ignore either, and Tennessee wilted under the combination of Heat, Noise and Charger execution. Said Marty Schottenheimer- "I like the way our players competed in every regard." Schottenheimer continued, "I know they're giving everything they've got, and the first two weeks it's been good enough." That's a freakin understatement, on the scale of saying that Terrell Owens gets a little press coverage. No coach could be more pleased than Marty right now; he just has a great poker face.

The Chargers began by letting Phillip Rivers air the ball out, and "air it out, Rivers did". (Yoda) Even the sight of Drew Brees throwing for 353 yards yesterday could not take away from Rivers afternoon, which was almost perfect. Rivers had a productive day, hitting on 25 out of 35 attempts, good for 235 yards, 1 TD, and a 99.1 QB rating. Titans QB Kerry Collins rating for the day was a robust 1.3.

Nate Kaeding scored the Chargers first points of the day, hitting a 28-yard FG, and cashing in a solid opening drive.
It was clear that Rivers was being given a more challenging game plan for the day. Roll outs, misdirection, all the things that Brees could do, Rivers did as well, if not a little better.
PR showed his A game yesterday,
    3-0 Chargers

Ladainian Tomlinson scored the Chargers first TD of the afternoon, a nice 4-yard sweep opened up by Lorenzo Neal's crushing block. LT looks to be in fine form, slashing and weaving, and rolling on every hit. Defenders can't get a good shot on LT; he always manages to elude the blast.

10- 0 Bolts- Game Set Match... let the beating begin
The Charger Defense wanted to prove that last week's shutout of the Raiders was no fluke, and began the day by forcing Kerry Collins to look like, well, Kerry Collins.
Collins first 5 passes fell incomplete, over the span of Tennessee's first 3 drives. While not gathering any sacks, the D was swarming all over the field, a beautiful sight which pleased the 64,377 people who were micro waving in the stands. HOT..

LT cashed in the next TD as well for San Diego, barely getting the ball inside the pylon on another sweep from inside the 10. This TD was set up by Eric Parker's 25-yard punt return to the Titans 41. Parker also had the highlight reel catch of the day on the Chargers first drive- a great leaping spinning snag over the middle. EP is much improved over the last 2 seasons.

    17-0 Chargers- pour it on...

Vince Young made his debut for Jeff Fishers team, as Collins was not going to be able to do anything against the Storm Front. Neither was Young, who showed quickness and a strong arm, while running for his life...

The first half ended at 20-0, and it was time to turn everyone over, The front side of every fan and player was cooked. I have been to hotter games, but the blue seats retain the heat way more than the old orange ones did. We could not sit in our seats, which were like griddles.

The Titans had 15 yards in offense... HOT...

Just as last week, the second half was an exercise in ball control and swarming defense by the Chargers.
San Diego racked off a 13-play 6-minute drive for Kaeding's next FG, with Rivers working the field on both sides. Antonio Gates and Keenan McCardell both had nice catches on the drive, and Kaeding nailed the FG from 35 yards.

23-0 Chargers- is this all you got Titans????? DEFFFEENNSSSEE

Shawn Merriman intercepted Collins on the ensuing series, finding a way to make a play without getting a sack.
Add 3 more points, a 44 yarder by Kaeding, who is also looking good.

26-0 Bolts... flashing back to 2000- what a difference!
The Titans made their best drive of the day on the ensuing possession, and were finally halted by DB Quentin Jammer's interception at the Chargers 35 yard line.

Rivers wasted no time, handing the ball to Michael Turner 4 times with great success, including a 30 yard barrel up the gut. Turner is AMAZING. Vincent Jackson hauled in Rivers 12 yard TD pass out of the shotgun.

    33-0 Chargers- I like it

Tennessee got on the board in the 4th quarter, a drive fueled by the fact that the chargers defenders were gassed, from the heat. This ended the Chargers bid to log back to back shut outs to open the season. San Diego has to ranked number 1 in almost every offensive and defensive category, which beats the heck out of 0-2.

    33-7 Chargers

San Diego scored its last points without even trying, with MT taking a simple up the gut run 73 yards to the Tennessee
15-yard line. Charlie Whitehurst scored his first NFL TD on a
14-yard sweep, which worked all day against Tennessee.
Don't look for it to be so easy against the Ravens 2 weeks from now in Baltimore.

    40-7 Chargers final

Get me out of this sun!!!!
I had to sleep until 12 noon Monday to be able to finish writing this, as I am a baked potato, its a good thing I broke in my new WHITE jersey, that made the heat a little easier to deal with.

This week, the BYE week, which we do not need.
Next game at Baltimore 10 am CBSHD
