Just heard it on Sirius NFL radio. They called him for an interview and he hadn't even heard the news yet.

    Oliver....Oliver.... :icon_sad:

Who? Somebody clue me in here.

Edit: Nevermind. Dude from Georgia, I forgot.

Well, this is encouraging. We need all the help there we can get once 'ol Headbutter gets shown the door.

Very interesting... my guess is that he is slated to take over the nickleback role after Cro replaces Flo at the end of the season.

(assuming he shows up and can play)

This is great if true. I was worried that somebody would pony up a third for him.

It's a relief to know that trading up to get Weddle didn't cost us the chance to land Oliver.

Sweet. Oliver dropped in the sup draft because of his slow 40 time, but he didn't spend 2-3 months training specifically for the 40 like most prospects. I think Oliver will be a solid nickel back. He's certainly better than the CBs normally taken that late in the draft.

    Nice work AJ.

Damn that is GREAT news! We need someone around for next year and now he has a year to learn the system and at least be a nickle next year. I'll be sad to see Florence go, but it looks like our luck stays good and a replacement pops up just at the right time.

I kinda would have liked to of grabbed that OL for a prospect, but it sounds like the Ravens took him in the 5th.

Yeah that one evaluation said intelligence could be a factor...not the greatest review there. lol

He seemed to make some plays at GA though and we could use that somewhere in our secondary for sure. We now have some serious depth.

They would not have wasted a pick on him if they didn't think he could make the team.

This might spell the end of Cletis the Fetus.

I always felt Cletis had a lot of potential as a return guy, but not so much as a CB.

There is something to what you say, but lately the Chargers have not hesitated on cutting drafted players.

Was he available in the regular draft. Tell the truth I dont know much about the suplemental draft. Someone enlighten this ball watcher... Please.

He's a lock to make the team. He was considered the best CB in the draft if he stayed in school for next year.

He flunked out or didn't make enough progress to his degree so he wasn't eligible to play at GA this year. That happened after the regular draft. Since he couldn't be picked in the regular draft and he couldn't play college last year, he ended the supplemental draft. As it is, he's a great insurance policy for the whole Florence situation. We get a guy in the system a year early using next year's pick and have him ready to play nickle if Cro has to be a starter next year.

It's the same way we got J.Williams from Oklahoma State.

He could have been a 1st round pick next year.

I don't put too much into the "held Calvin Johnson" BS, but the rest of it sounds pretty good overall. He might even be an option at safety if we needed him there.

I'll issue a challenge. when our 4th round pick comes around next year tell me a CB still left available that is even close to this guy's physical abilities. On top of that, we get him a year early so he might be ready to be a nickle at least if we lose Florence this year. The timing couldn't have been better. The value of what we received for what we gave up is pretty hard to argue.

Jammer, Cromartie? They are second besters?

We took Merriman and Castillo when people had major questions about them. McNeil when people were worried about his back.

    Are they second best players?

Our secondary has steadaly improved over the last two years. Some of that is better play on the line, but quite a bit of that is better talent in the backfields.

Boo hoo. Landry and Nelson were out of reach unless we wanted to give up a lot more than it took to get Weddle.

Oliver is better than you give him credit for, and it's not like we used a 1st on the guy. We took him in the 4th. Considering that we get him a year early, that adds even more value.

Like someone else said, Oliver will be much better than any 4th round CB next year.
