SAN DIEGO ---- A new mayor in Chula Vista? No problem, say the Chargers.

Special counsel Mark Fabiani, the team's point man in its push for a new stadium, on Wednesday said the team intends to initiate discussions with Chula Vista mayor-elect Cheryl Cox on the possibility of relocating to the South Bay city.

"We look forward to meeting with the mayor elect as soon as she has time for us," Fabiani said. "We expect our situation and the city's situation will remain the same. We have an obligation to make a deal that would make sense for the taxpayers and the Chargers."

In Tuesday's election, Cox defeated Steve Padilla ---- the incumbent who had helped initiate talks with the Chargers earlier this year.
