The 2005 San Diego Chargers are in a unique situation as they are the only team in the NFL returning all 22 starters on offense and defense, plus their punter, kicker and long snapper. Therefore, gaining a roster spot on this year's team meant you had to be exceptional.
The challenge for a new player is to learn the team's system asap. The faster they learn it, the quicker they can let their instincts take over. That way they don't have to hesitate on the field, and can just react. Once they reach that comfort level, the better ones have a shot, though slim, of making the team.
Chargers final 53-man roster includes only 9 players who were not part of the 2004 AFC West championship team. The new non-rookies:
Safety Bhawoh Jue(6', 200 lbs), a former Nittany Lion, was obtained in free agency from the Packers and this will be his 5th NFL season.
TE Landon Trusty (6'7", 260 lbs) is out of Hot Springs, Arkansas and played for Central Arkansas. School's only two-time winner of Male Student Athlete of Year Award.</blockquote>
