This story by PFT is a steaming pile of poo that proves Florio is nothing but a hack. This is just a bunch of dots connected by some jag off who must have some kind of NFL in LA fantasy.

Didn't realize a new facility was going to total $1 billion.
The donks got it done with the owners footing 25% of the bill and a 6 county sales tax coming in with 70%.
Course, that all got approved in the middle of a 2nd Super Bowl season...

IMHO it would take a Super Bowl win to get this deal done, and I'm fine with that.
As fans, voters, and taxpayers, I believe our mandate to the Boltz should be, "Bring us the Lombardi and we'll help you build a new stadium."

My guess is that the Chargers are starting out high and will say later they don't need THAT much and will start cutting from there. Simple negotiating tactic but a very poor reading of their negotiating partner

They might try starting a buy a brick campaign engraved with your name on it. You know, big bricks cost 100.00 small bricks for 25.00 and everything else in between. In this way, the new stadium will actually be owned by the real fans. No, seriously!

And that's a stupid mandate because a Lombardi will never be something you can guarantee.

I like this idea. I'd just hope it'd go into the stadium costs. Not sure if that happened with PetCo's bricks.

It was just an idea for a way to raise money independently of Spanos or the City/County of San Diego. I volunteer to be keeper of the coin at no charge!!!!! I didn't know they did that for Petco, then again I have been away a very long time.

    Leo;

The bricks are there at Petco. Of course, they are missing a few and some of the players are complaining because they get hit with them once in a while here lately...

I've seen the bricks. In the stadium, not the ones being thrown. :D

Aw hell, I'd give the city a dollar to start this thing rolling, only 6,999,999 more to go...

The assertion was that we won't give them the stadium unless they give us a Lombardi.

I was arguing that that is an unfair demand.

Frankly, the Chargers don't need a huge stadium either. The old Jack Murphy stadium was a good size. 55-60,000 is plenty for our local fan base. The only reason to have more seats, is to host a Super Bowl, and those don't come around often enough to warrant the extra expense.

Having an oversized stadium is why we've had blackouts recently. Unless the team is winning the division and contending for the playoffs regularly, they just aren't going to sellout a Super Bowl sized stadium on a regular basis.

If the Chargers really want a new stadium built, they need to do two things......

    1. Kick in more of their own money. If the Raiders can do it, so can Dean Spanos.
    2. Have a more modest stadium design that is more affordable. $1 billion stadium is too rich for this region.

They also mandated that a couple thousand tickets to every home game are sold for half price, and the way they keep them out of scalpers hands is make they a will call pickup where you get them as you walk into the stadium so you can't leave to sell the tickets.

Then again, the nose bleeds are now around $100, which is a lot more expensive than the $52-79 at Qualcomm.

By the way, those 6 counties combined are smaller than SD county. But this should be a county thing, and should be paid for by the entire county, and the entire county should benefit from the generated revenue

Yep, they had to have a damn good strategy to get a couple of those counties in on it. I was surprised they included Boulder Co. in the 6 county area, and even more surprised the voters there approved it.
And true again about their ticket prices (though you can usual score cheap seats on tickethorse leading up to the Chargers games)
I'm sure that if a new stadium is built in SD, ticket prices go up.

Tickets are far from cheap over the last few years and got even more expensive last year the moment they signed Manning. I had gotten nose bleeds for $70-80 for a few years prior to last year. Last year they were jacked up above $100 from all sources

I got 3 for $60 apiece, but they weren't together...
If you pick off singles only, it's a lot cheaper.

Yeah, I'm not going and sitting by myself. I enjoy games, but I enjoy games while hanging with other Chargers fans.

Oh well, luckily Denver always sells out, so I can watch the game from home

Usually you get a few seats together open up by the 2nd half. Not gonna say that bronco fans are fairweather, they just get trashed and forget where their seats are

At least is would be something tangible that you could actually see, and would bring dollars back to the city! Unlike another nanny state B.S. social program!

I'm guessing you weren't a business major.
