    Chargers add veteran lineman

The Chargers addressed their needs along the offensive line Wednesday as they added ninth-year lineman Dennis Norman, who started 14 games at center last year for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Norman can play multiple spots on the offensive line and has appeared in 64 games with 24 starts during his NFL career. He’s expected to give the Chargers depth at center and guard. He’s started 15 games at center, eight at guard and one at tackle. The Princeton grad originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2001. He signed with Jacksonville as a free agent in 2004 and remained with the Jaguars until he was released this summer at the conclusion of training camp.

In order to make room for Norman on the active roster, the Chargers waived defensive end Andre Coleman[IMG], who was elevated from the team’s practice squad on Monday. Coleman re-signed with the Chargers’ practice squad Wednesday.

    Interesting tidbit from wikipedia...

Norman was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars on December 7, 2004. He was released on September 8, 2009 after the team signed offensive lineman Kynan Forney.

    Bolts sign G/C Dennis Norman

    http://bolttalk.com/?p=5315

SAN DIEGO (AP)—The San Diego Chargers have signed center Dennis Norman two days after starter Nick Hardwick(notes) sprained his ankle in a close victory at Oakland.

Norman was waived by Jacksonville on Sept. 8, the same day the Jaguars signed guard Kynan Forney, who had been waived by the Chargers.

While Norman was at practice, several Chargers missed the portion that was open to the media, including Hardwick, rookie right guard Louis Vasquez (knee), left tackle Marcus McNeill (ankle), running back LaDainian Tomlinson (ankle) and defensive tackle Jamal Williams (elbow).

Defensive end Luis Castillo, who hurt an elbow Monday night, was at practice.

The Chargers play their home opener Sunday against Baltimore.

    Bolts sign G/C Dennis Norman

...After they released Andre Coleman to make room for Norman... they brought Coleman up from the practice squad after letting Gartrell Johnson go and have since resigned Coleman to the practice squad...

AJ must look like he's chaing his tail...

so after all is said and done we sign a multi positional O lineman who was dropped by JAX when they signed the guy we cut...:icon_huh:

is there any way we can get a compensatory pick out of this???

    Bolts sign G/C Dennis Norman

Line dance leads Chargers to Norman

    By John Clayton
    Thursday, September 17, 2009

Even though the Chargers might have temporarily lost two starting offensive linemen to injury, their organization felt as though it got a lucky break this week.

Before the season, the Chargers cut veteran Kynan Forney to make way for rookie Louis Vasquez at right guard. Forney ended up signing with Jacksonville, which released Dennis Norman at the end of training camp to make room. On Thursday, the Chargers signed Norman.

The Chargers feel as though they ended up with the better end of the swap. Norman can help out at guard or center. Forney was mainly a guard. With center Nick Hardwick and Vasquez questionable because of injuries suffered Monday night against the Raiders, Norman fits at either position as a backup to center Scott Mruczkowski and guard Brandyn Dombrowski.
