The 49ers are just 15-38 over the past four-plus seasons, although they have won four of their last seven, including the final two games of 2005. </font>

    <font class="newstext">Still, there's no question the 49ers are improved over the bunch that completed a rare double last year – allowing the most yards in the NFL while gaining the fewest. This year's numbers are better, especially offensively, where San Francisco is No. 13 in yards and No. 12 in points. The resurgence has been led by quarterback Alex Smith, receivers Antonio Bryant and Arnaz Battle and running back Frank Gore, who is tied for the league lead in rushing.</font></blockquote>
