SAN DIEGO - Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer isn't sure if linebacker Randall Godfrey will play in Sunday's game at the New York Jets following the death of his sister.

"We did not discuss that," Schottenheimer said Wednesday.

Godfrey's sister, Deidre Miller, was found fatally shot in her car Tuesday in Valdosta, Ga., after a wreck following what police said was a chase by her former boyfriend. Godfrey flew to Georgia after being informed of her death.

"As I've explained to him, his first priority is to his family," Schottenheimer said.

If Godfrey doesn't play Sunday, he'll be replaced by Stephen Cooper. Cooper filled in for the injury Godfrey in last Sunday's win over Kansas City.

"Stephen did a terrific job for us and that's certainly comforting to us, but obviously we'd like to have Randall available to us," Schottenheimer said. "If he is not, his family in that situation takes priority, in my view."
