    Chargers re-sign Ian Scott

Posted by Michael David Smith on March 17, 2010 3:05 PM ET
Ian Scott is staying in San Diego.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that Scott, a free agent defensive tackle who played the last two years with the Chargers, has signed a one-year deal to stick with the team for the 2010 season.

Keeping Scott became a higher priority for the Chargers after they lost defensive tackle Jamal Williams, whom the Chargers hoped to re-sign after releasing, but who signed with the Broncos instead.

In 2009 Scott played in 12 games, starting seven.

We need to ask Dielman and McNeil to play both ways otherwise, next year will bring a lot of pain for Bolt fans.

Ian Scott is a good 4th stringer. :banghead:

I put something similar forward ages ago. Why not trade up to get a beast like Suh (Nose) or McCoy (End) for the Chargers Defence?

I still like Cody as a prospect though...espically with the 28th overall.

I am nor sure that Cody will be available at 28. This draft is going to be interesting especially if the Seahawks give us picks for Whitehurst.

it means that there will be a rotating D-line approach, just like last year, which at the end of the season wasn't playing all that bad

It would take a ridiculous amount to trade up far enough to get Suh or McCoy. Both are destined to great, IMO, but we'd be mortgaging the future to get them.

I have a hard time believing that we're going to stick entirely with what we had last year. These guys that we've re-signed aren't breaking the bank. Hopefully they'll be others brought in via the draft to compete & the best will win.

Otherwise .... we're in for a repeat of last year, IMO.

We ran with alot of backups who played well in their time, no sense in letting them all go. I imagine we're still going NT in the draft but it doesn't hurt to have a good rotation going. If anything that was our problem prior to this past season; we had Jamal and had no one else who could play NT. Now we have Travis Johnson and Ian Scott who both can play NT decently. Add one good mauler (Cody, Thomas, Troup) and we will have a good mix at NT

Like you I don't see Ian so bad. Playing O or D-line you have to show syncronity, knowing quickly how the others move
keep some proofed players around is good. The second part of the season Jamal wasn't missed so hart as in the beginning.
Better to cut one Def-liner short before season starts than to search for someone after someone is injured.

Yeah, Ian Scott played pretty well last season. And I actually thought he played well in the pre-season too(before we cut him). Jamal didn't play in the Falcons pre-season game, and Scott did a great job controlling the middle against Michael Turner. (and Turner had TORE UP the first two pre-season games)

He's a good guy to keep.
