    Last year's scouting report
2008 Scouting Report - Scouts Inc.
    Grade: 65 | Key
    Alert: None

Comment: Forney plays tough and aggressive and has good functional strength, quickness and body control. He is initially quick and can bring his feet to create movement in the running game. Does a good job working for leverage while providing leg drive. Is effective with his angles into contact and has strength on contact with good effort to finish. Gives good mesh and angles into double teams and enough strength to take over and sustain if the center leaves to make the climb. When he leaves to climb he is athletic enough and has good enough body control to make adjustments in space. Gives good effort in space, showing the ability to chop defenders in space when he can't keep his feet or is making a tough adjustment. He does a good job with angle blocks and can seal running lanes quickly, walling off defenders with good balance. Has good balance to set and slide in pass protection, and while he will carry his hands low at times he has good strength to punch and shock defenders. He has adequate overall foot quickness but often relies on upper-body strength to lock on if his feet are late. Quick counter moves and good change of direction rusher can get him off-balance and over-extended.

For teh record the Chargers had tried to sign him to a two year deal during the season, I wonder what changed? Outside of being guaranteed to be the RG

He probably didn't play because Goff did and because he was new to the system. Hopefully he'll be an upgrade.

It'll be interesting how this effects our thinking going into the draft

Forney is a vet and has a good rep when he was in ATL. I saw him start many games for the ATL so he's no slouch. I think if anything we need a vet at OG until we groom a young stud OG that AJ will draft. Remember we still have the big dude from Texas A & M Corey Clark but he's a OT. Forney is a solid vet signing imo and cheap action! Like some of you said, can't have enough BEEF up front!

Great, another scrub on the offensive line, just what we need. LT better restructure quick so we can get right to resigning more castoffs in July, and not resigning Merriman.

Lights ain't going nowhere Show. AJ would be raked over the coals if he turned the Lights Off! And I'll be the one holding the rake!

It's a good signing. Doesn't mean that we aren't still looking at OL beef - we'd better be - but it does indicate that defense is first this year.

I don't believe RB at 16. The class is too deep.

I MIGHT buy WR. Just because it could turn out to be BPA. :icon_shrug:

Pretty solid considering all the other holes that need to be filled.

No way in hell we go RB... like you said... This class is RB deep. I wouldn't buy WR either... We have to go MLB or DT in the first IMO.

You dont actually believe that do you?
AJ is driving out the greatest player to ever don a chargers jersey today, and is doing it after a year in which he still finished in the top 10 in yards and top 5 in TDs, and hardly anyone even cares, and no one is "raking him over the coals"

If word even comes out that merriman is getting cut, there will be 20 threads about how he is a me-player, a show off, a roider, a team cancer etc...

AJ has somehow gotten to the point where he can do what he wants and people will worship the ground he walks on like hes the second coming of jesus.

As for this thread, its just more proof that AJ hasnt got a clue. 2.4mil per for a guy who was cut from his last team and came here and not only couldnt beat out an injured goff (whose the weakest link on the offense) but was only active for 3 games all year??

Give me a break. Hey AJ, why the **** keep signing backups WHEN OUR STARTERS ARE LOOKING FOR DEALS!!?!?!??!

No wonder we are an 8-8 team, this is a team of all backups, good job Arrogant Jackass!

Why is getting a backup to Mal more important that a RB? jamal will be here next year, but we dont actually have a starting RB

Probably because good nose tackles are ALOT harder to find then starting running backs. That's not a slight to LT, who's special, but nose tackles don't come around very often. Teams can win super bowls with decent running backs (Willie Parker, Corey Dillon, whomever was with the Bucs in 2002, Brandon Jacobs)

And this year is no different, there are only 2 good NT in the draft, both from BC, and Raji wont fall to 16, and Brace is not a top 16 player, but because of AJs idiocy, we dont have a 2nd rounder to draft him

    TRUTH.

Plus, the RB class this year is ridiculously deep. There's no one worth dropping a 1st-3rd pick on [no one like LT - and KnoShow is NOT a young LT ppls] Burner was a 5th rounder - there will be plenty of RB's to choose from but we need to strengthen the trenches first and foremost. Jamal will be here next year, but the man has taken a beating. How much longer can he hold up? I'd rather have an heir apparent here now to be his back-up for a bit than have to go thru a trial by fire after big nasty has left the game.

We fix our lines - we win it all. :icon_toast:

There's some potentially decent ones further down; Torrance Taylor of Michigan and Dorell Scott of Clemson. Might be worth looking at.

Look I agree the trading of a second was stupid, AJ paid too much to one of our biggest adversaries to get Hester (not worth it). Still let's see what happens out of all of this.

So maybe we can find a gem which is what AJ has done well, and I always misspell his first name, everytime
