    John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the San Diego Chargers have been given $2,627,940 to sign their five draft picks from the 2008 NFL Draft.

    John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports San Diego Chargers QB Philip Rivers (knee) is ahead of schedule in his recovery from knee reconstruction surgery. Rivers appears to be on schedule to fully take part in training camp.

    Chargers | Tomlinson to appear in two more Campbell's commercials

    Brandweek.com reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson will appear in two more commercials for Campbell Soup Co., which will air in September 2008 at the beginning of the NFL season. It will be Tomlinson's second time in a Campbell's commercial. He appeared in one last season with several NFL players. The campaign will unveil a new tagline for Campbell's Chunky Soup, "Fill up on the good stuff." The commercial is called "Working Day" and follows Tomlinson through the course of a normal day as he prepares for the upcoming NFL season. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

    Matt Crossman, of SportingNews.com, reports San Diego Chargers CB Antonio Cromartie became only the seventh player this decade to intercept 10 passes in the regular season. He is the ninth player to accomplish this in the past 20 NFL seasons.

    Chargers | Tomlinson won't see preseason carries

    Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson will not see any carries during the preseason, even though Tomlinson had recently floated around the idea of possibly seeing some action in the preseason. "He doesn't need to carry the ball in the preseason. He's been pretty productive doing things the way they've been done around here for a long time," head coach Norv Turner said.

    Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports the San Diego Chargers are targeting free-agent C Jeremy Newberry (Raiders) for a possible signing June 1, according to numerous sources. The team is concerned enough about C Nick Hardwick (foot) not starting the upcoming season. No deal is in place, sources said, but the Chargers are the front-runners for Newberry's services.

    Kevin Acee, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers RB Jacob Hester will play both running back and fullback for the team. He has played both positions during the team's minicamp. Hester has run routes, caught passes, paved the way for running backs and carried the ball.
