    <font class="newstext">The offensive line – and the fullback and tight ends – opened running lanes and kept them open. The running back was afforded a rare opportunity to reach the second level, serving notice he may yet be on his way to the most productive season of his career. </font>

    <font class="newstext"> Certainly, the 38-yard touchdown run, featuring a Walter Payton-type stiff-arm, was stunning. The 51-yard run through a hole the size of Maine and down the sideline was thrilling. But as LaDainian Tomlinson continued his dash toward the Hall of Fame, it was far shorter runs that might have been the most impressive part of his game.</font>
