Chargers sign veteran center; Mruczkowski on Reserve-Injured
    Posted 18 minutes ago
a a The San Diego Chargers placed center Scott Mruczkowski on IR and signed veteran center Eric Ghiaciuc.
The San Diego Chargers placed center Scott Mruczkowski (merch-COW-ski) on Reserve-Injured today due to an ankle injury he suffered during the final, game-winning drive in last weekend's win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Mruczkowski started the last 13 games at center for the Chargers after Nick Hardwick was injured in the season opener in Oakland.

To replace Mruczkowski on the active roster, the team signed veteran center Eric Ghiaciuc (GUY-check). Ghiaciuc entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection of the Bengals in 2005. He brings valuable NFL playing experience to San Diego. He started 42 of 48 games at center in his first four seasons (2005-08). He signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an unrestricted free agent in 2009 and was released after training camp. Ghiaciuc is 6-4, 303 from Central Michigan and will wear number 77.

If you believe XX1090, then Hardwick went through practice with no problem whatsoever

Me I'm a little more pessimistic

And I wonder if Hardwick can't go, why didn't we get this guy earlier?

I'm wondering why Hardwick isn't on IR in the first place.

According to reports, Hardwick practiced this morning and was looking good. Hardwick is also slated to start on Friday. So, is this new center Norman's back-up? And what about David Binn? Couldn't he be a center too? We have more centers than QB's, what is up with that?

I've never seen him play, anyone have any info on him?

And hopefully Hardwick's back so that he won't have to play anyway.

    Eh, about 65 lbs.

You'll be surprised at how many starting centers are just around 295 lbs.

Probably a safety pick up in case Hardwick can't go. You don't want to go into a game with only 1 healthy center.

By the accounts that I've heard & Nick's 1090 interview, he's ready. Thank AJ for not IR'ing him or we'd be sucking hind tit at center right now.

I've become seriously jaded about players saying they're ready. Ready seems to mean "60% and hurting" now adays.

On the MASH unit that we've been fielding this year, that assessment looks pretty positive.

Plus, it's not like we are picking up rookies to fill the spot. Norman has been in the league for 9 years, the other newly acquired center has also been around. Why do we pick up people whose names are hard to pronounce?

Eric Ghiaciuc (GUY-check) Almost looks like the word Chia Pet. Okay, so now the Chargers actually have a ch-ch-ch-chia pet...

Profile on the new guy at Scout Insider jic you have an account. Sounds like the main knock is that he's weak at the POA.

I sure hope that Nick and/or Norman are ready. I'd almost prefer to go with Norman as I feel certain that the Titans have been instructed to go for Nick's ankle.
