Musinski, Blizzard sign with NFL teams

Former W&M standout Rich Musinski lands a deal with the Chargers. Hampton High alum Bobby Blizzard signs with the Bengals.

Former William and Mary record-breaking wide receiver Rich Musinski has signed a one-year contract with the San Diego Chargers.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Musinski played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europa in 2007, catching 21 passes for 292 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He had his best game of the season in Week 3 against Amsterdam, catching five passes for 137 yards, including a 63-yard touchdown.

Musinski also played for the Thunder in 2006, leading the team with 23 catches for 277 yards and four touchdowns. In 2005, Musinski spent time with the Nashville Kats of the Arena Football League, catching five passes for 64 yards.

Musinski was a four-year starter for W&M. Upon his graduation after the 2003 season, Musinski left campus as the school's all-time leader in receiving yards (4,168), receiving touchdowns (31) and receptions (223).

Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Bengals signed former Hampton High tight end Bobby Blizzard, a free agent who played for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europa this year, to a one-year deal.

Blizzard (6-4, 255 pounds) led the Centurions in catches (38), receiving yardage (494) and touchdowns (six, all receiving).

Blizzard's most recent NFL activity was for Baltimore, where he spent the last three games of 2005 on the Ravens' practice squad. He also spent the entire '04 season on Arizona's practice squad. He originally signed with Pittsburgh in '04.

That is precisely correct. I'm thinking they are going to work the DB's into playing with their heads as well as their bodies and they need guys to run at them without completely exhausting the guys who are going to start. Besides, if he is any good, he could find a spot on the taxi squad. From his size, he might make a pretty good special teamer. He puts Camarillo on an even thinner bubble.

It's a good deal for Musinski as well. Even though it's not likely that he'll make the team, he'll get some game film from the Chargers preseason games that he can show other teams that might be interested in him.

That "Hello Mother, Hello Father" camp song came to me for some reason.

    Hello Musinski,
    Hello fodder
    It's too bad that
    You won't make the roster.
    It's still a good job,
    Maybe the practice squad
Is where you will end up after getting pounded all summer.
