    Jacoby Jones lands with Chargers
Posted by Josh Alper on March 6, 2015, 1:04 PM EST

Wide receiver/kick returner Jacoby Jones has landed a new job.

According to multiple sources, Jones has signed a two-year deal with the Chargers. Jones also visited with the Bengals and Titans following his release from the Ravens last week.

Jones, who has four career punt return touchdowns, should slot in as the team’s lead punt returner with Eddie Royal headed for free agency and Keenan Allen playing a major role on offense. He’s also taken back four kickoffs for touchdowns in the last three regular seasons to go with his 108-yard score in Super Bowl XLVII, which should give him the inside track on that job as well.

How he might slot in on offense after catching just nine passes in Baltimore last year is less clear, but the Chargers likely had their eye on Jones as a return man first and foremost.

We finally got serious about KR and PR. I like that a lot.

He's a good fit in our offense too I think.

Gotta wonder what this means for Royal.

I didn't realize he was that big..... not the usual tiny return man. He doesn't have great hands, but he could be a field-stretching option. Don't think he's really a comparable player to Royal.

For the people still hysterical about Ryan Mathews' 2011 fumble numbers,
do not let them know that Jacoby Jones fumbled the ball 4 times last year,
despite only touching the ball 3 times!*

*not intended to be a factual statement...but disturbingly close...

Guess that means Seyi is out the door. Hate to lose his punt/kick coverage skills.

Contract is 2/5.5mil but I haven't seen what the split is. Seems about right in my opinion.

So if JJ is our return specialist and occasional burner at the 3/4 WR spot then I'm thrilled with this signing. However, if he's expected to play a major role in our offense and is the only WR we add this offseason.. I'm less thrilled.

Actually I believe we signed Austin Pettis a couple weeks ago, so he's already not the only WR we add this offseason.:p

Telesco sure does seem to have a "type" when it comes to receivers. Allen, Inman, Jones, and Pettis are all 6'2-6'3 around 200-210 pounds.

I read contract is 2yrs and "up to 5.5 million" which leads me to believe there's a fair amount of incentives and low on the guaranteed end.

I assume there is going to be a handful of signings over the next few days, and to avoid starting multiple threads lets just put it all in here.

    I'll start it off...
Adam Caplan ‏@caplannfl 10m10 minutes ago
#Chargers C Trevor Robinson agreed to a 2-year deal to re-sign with the team, source said. Deal is up to $4.25 M with playing time bonuses.

No! I like it when the Forum is clogged with new threads because Jack Frost really gets uber confused, which is a very funny state of affairs :D

A source tells the Union-Tribune there is "nothing happening right now" between the Chargers and free agent RB Ryan Mathews.

There was some communication between the two sides Monday, but Mathews will likely see what's out there this week. It's the right move as the running back market starts to correct itself as seen in the LeSean McCoy and Mark Ingram deals. Mathews is our No. 3 free agent RB available, behind only DeMarco Murray and C.J. Spiller.

    Behind cj spiller... Yea right.

Oddly enuff with king and the flower locked up, I feel like our first 3 if not all draft picks can be spent on BPA/PONBPA. And I'm also not as ready for RM to depart if he would take a conditional contract regardless the value of the conditions. But I would also not ache too much if at the same time we land Gurley in the second.

Would love to sign Chris Hairston to play RG. He'd be the 'Dunlap' type signing we had 2 years ago. Cheap 2 year deal, good production. Played in Buffalo under Joe D, fit in well in his scheme.

Would have been nice if he would have blessed us with a full season. I know the injuries aren't his fault, but I'm good to move on from Mathews
