Maybe they should sue the Coronado Police instead.

Same, the guys been through enough, and for half a mil is it really worth it to call attention to the whole thing again and send this kind of message to current and future players?

    What message?
Multiple DUI's, alcohol related run in's with the police, and domestic violence will catch up to you eventually?

I'm not saying this is right but Foley has a long record of very bad behavior.

I could be wrong, but from what I remember he was shot because of an overzealous off duty cop. I'm not condoning his other incidents either, but the fact that he was shot was unfortunate. Now that they are suing him, to me it sounds like they are ignoring the misfortunes of a former player and trying to recover chump change and or send a message in the wrong way.

Probably. Bad behavior is not just realted to those. With the way many drink at tailgaters I would not be surprised.

Point is, you should not be casting stones. None of us should. If you lack the empathy to put yourself in Foley's shoes, at least maintain the personal honesty to realize that you have been given multiple second chances for your bad behaviors, just as I and others have... So perhaps the high horse should be dismounted...

    Just a thoght...

So far I've assumed thats why you're so angry all the time. zing

I think most people had forgotten about this until the media brought it up again with th Merriman thing. Now that the team is worried about a small amount of money to them, it's brought up again. Let it go Chargers brain trust... let it go.

I've never hit a woman or had alcohol related run in's with the police.
As for drinking and driving... I've done in in my teens and early twenties but I stopped after seeing all the trouble my friends got into and just barely escaped joining them.

Everybody makes mistakes but some of us also learn.
It's quite obvious that he wasn't going to change his ways.

Foley breached his signed contract, It's the teams right to recover their money they gave in good faith. Is it a good thing for them to do? I don't agree with it, but then again it isn't my money either.

I know the Chargers have the right to do it. I am not sure they should do it. What is that amount to them?

That is true, HB. A contract is a contract.

    What are you talking about?

Though I do think the Chargers have a right to collect what's their's. Especially after Foley was given 5.5 million by the Coronado. I'm just not into this theory on people like Foley have their way because they're famous.

Well you have the right to feel you know all there is to know about Steve Foley. I doubt any of us knows what his demons are or what he has or has not learned from...

Duh... if he learned, he wouldn't have multiple charges against him.
Just because you have demons, that doesn't mean you should be excused from violent and reckless behavior. He could get away with lots because of his finances and celebrity status.

I didn't say I agreed with it and it really doesn't matter what I think to those that are going for the dough.

Foley didn't exactly have his way. I'm pretty sure his plans didn't include being shot and not playing football.

OK, I actually like your hard toltalitarian mentality. Shall we start holding you accountable to the same stringent standards you wish to hold others to? :icon_shrug:

Lets say the next time I make you mad and you show bad behavior of posting something insulting, we allow you a year off to learn from your lesson? Would that be alright... I mean you should have learned fromall the times you did it before right? Just because you have demons doesnt me we should excuse you for them. right? Or is that just to be applied to others and not you?

NOTE; before anyone wigs out... NO I AM NOT GOING TO DO THAT... But it makes me smile to think of it...

The cop was a bit violent and reckless himself no? I don't remember it ever coming out that he properly addressed himself as a cop that night. He shot foley because he reached in his car?

Since he never learned, he could have ended up running off the road and killing somebody, or himself.

If any of us had his chargers from the past, we'd probably have to do time.

I agree that the cop should have handled this situation better. Like call in for on duty officers to handle it.

Though Foley could have pulled into a police station, called 911 on his cell phone, or even pulled into a convient store. He didn't do any of those things cause he didn't want another DUI.

Foley would have only gotten 2.25 million about half of the money going to the lawyers.

I loved Foley as a player. I met him twice and he was a really nice guy.
Too bad he had no control over his demons.
