The Chargers plan to start their third center Sunday in four games.

It will be their newest O-lineman.

Doug Legursky has been prepared this week to start for Rich Ohrnberger, sources said. The latter, after missing the entire practice week due to a back injury, is listed doubtful to face the Jaguars. Legursky was signed Sept. 11 shortly after Nick Hardwick was placed on injured reserve with recurring neck issues.

A carousel at center is new to San Diego.

Entering the year, Hardwick hadn't missed a start since 2009. He played in 95.4 percent of the offense's 4736 snaps over that period, the one lynchpin to a unit full of moving pieces. The Chargers started 19 different players at the other four line positions in the span Hardwick strung 72 straight starts.

Legursky has taken to the playbook quickly. Experience helps.

He entered the league in 2008, signing with the Steelers as an undrafted rookie from Marshall. He's since made 28 career starts in the regular season and two in the playoffs, including the 2010 Steelers' Super Bowl loss to Green Bay.

In 2013, Legursky started 11 games at guard for Buffalo.

"Here, it's been Nick for so many years," Legursky said. "Everywhere I've been, especially in Pittsburgh, we've had injuries. I've played just as much center as I have guard. We never skip a beat. That's just everyone knowing what to do and realizing that whoever is in there needs to get the job done the same way as (the person before). ... If my number is called, I'm going to go out there and get the job done."

That Legursky is slated to start shouldn't be viewed as a slight to guard-center Chris Watt.

The Chargers are considered to be high on their rookie third-round pick and could find ways to get him on the field as early as Sunday.
