To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the AFL, alot of the old AFL teams are wearing their original uniforms at least twice. I know Tennessee is wearing theirs three times (the old Oiler uniforms).

We are wearing ours at least once against the Raiders opening night. And its the CLASSIC, AWESOME powder blues! Love those babies. I'm pretty sure we're going to wear them a few more times, we usually wear the "alternatives" twice so we could do that with the AFL uniforms.

Good news for sure. I am not a fan of the new alternates. I really hope to see our boys wear the away version of the classic baby blues.

The opening Monday night game is the strongest possibility.

On Sept. 14, ESPN will host a Monday Night Football doubleheader that will be part of the NFL's celebration of the 50th anniversary season of the AFL. The first game (7 p.m. ET) will pit the Bills against the Patriots, the decade's winningest team (102-42 since 2000), in Foxborough, Mass. The nightcap (10:15 p.m. ET) will be an AFC West showdown as the Raiders host the three-time defending division champion Chargers.

I am looking forward to seeing them. At least two games this year the team will be wearing great unis. How sad is it that we could be sporting those all the time, but the organization has chosen not to. I LOVE the Chargers font with the goalpost H.

Yes, they will wear the AFL throwbacks on opening weekend. The whole opening MNF theme is the 50th Anniversary of the AFL.

They will wear them again, at home against another original AFL team, meaning it has to be either the Raiders, Broncos, or Chiefs.

They can also wear their alternates (the current powder blues) twice as well.

Ugh, then why is Tennessee getting the actual AFL 50th Anniversary SHOWDOWN game on Thursday? There aren't even the same franchise as the original Oilers. It should Pittsburgh vs. San Diego or New England or one of those.

The new tradition is to have the Thursday kick-off game be played by the previous year's Super Bowl winner at home. In 2007, the Colts played at home vs. the Saints. In 2008, the Giants played at home vs. the Redskins. This year, the Steelers play at home vs. the Titans.

The Thursday Kick-Off game isn't part of the 50th AFL Anniversary celebration, only the MNF games that weekend are. Pittsburgh was not an AFL franchise, so they don't have any AFL uniforms to wear.

And Tennessee is the same franchise as the Houston Oilers. The whole organization packed up and moved from Texas to Tennessee--same CEO, same GM, same Head Coach (Jeff Fisher, who started as the coach of the Oilers in 1994), same players.

Awesome, I can't wait. I've always been a fan of the ole AFL original unis for all teams. I just hope the unis are worn when the original AFL teams play against each other. I haven't looked at the schedules outside the AFC West. I'm looking forward to the white jersey for the Bolts. I've never been a fan of the all white uni (chefs) for any team but when the Bolts used them in '94, I thought that was one sweet looking uni. I missed my chance to buy one then, but I won't this year. $$$

What a missed opportunity. We could have these as our regular unis.

I still have a "Stan Diego" t-shirt that I bought at the stadium when I visited San Diego in 94 and saw them reach 5-0 against the Quiefs!!! Stan will ALWAYS be one of my all time favorite Chargers!!!! :bolt:

When we reach the playoffs, I hung it on my weight bench, wore it every time I worked out, and didn't wash it until our season was over. :icon_eek:

I used to hate those uniforms but I think it helped when people stopped referring to them as "baby blues." :icon_eek:

I hate ALL powder blue unis, but we do seem to win when we wear them during the past 8 years since we have had Tomlinson.

Anyone know our record during this time frame wearing the Powder Blue unis???:icon_shrug:
