Chargers heat up at Valley Ranch

The Chargers were pleasantly surprised by the weather and overcame an early start to their day to get in a productive practice with the Dallas Cowboys at the team’s Valley Ranch facility.

“It started off a little slow,” safety Eric Weddle said. “… After the first period, we got a feel for them, and the intensity was there.”

The early wakeup (4 a.m. PDT) had an upside, in that temperatures expected to get up to 107 today were hardly into the 90s during practice, which ran from 9 to 11.

The defense, particularly, warmed up as practice progressed, getting three interceptions. The Chargers’ offense struggled in the run game. But, mostly, players got out of the competition what they expected as the bulk of practice had the Chargers offense going against the Cowboys defense and the Chargers defense going against the Cowboys offense on an adjacent field at the Cowboys' magnificent, sprawling headquarters.

“You’re going against a different guy,” Philip Rivers said. “You’re seeing a different front. Every individual battle was different … There were ups and downs. There were some good things we did.

“We’ve been practicing at a super high level, but this was even another level.”

Norv Turner pushed for this trip to not only mix up camp with different competition but give especially his young players a varied experience.

The team bused back to their hotel afterward for lunch, meetings and will have a walk-through this afternoon at Cowboys Stadium. The teams will practice Friday afternoon at the stadium, then work separately on Saturday before their Sunday night game.

“It’s all just changes they have to handle,” Turner said. “It’s good for them … It’s exactly what I hoped for.”

Even when we run well in games, its sloppy, our RBs always have to break a tackle or two in the backfield. Its been that way since Marty left.

I highly doubt the Bolt's showed any of their game day running program against the cowboy's D in practice. I'd lean more to the plain Jane side of things as vanilla even has some flavor.

Daily doubles are no longer allowed in the NFL as far as I know.
