I tentatively agree, depending on McCoy's contract situation. If his contract expires after this season, then that would be a little silly. I feel bad for Colt. Being the QB of a team with no talent in a division that has the Ravens and Steelers in it would just be murder.

AJ has his eyes set some someone none of us are even talking about. It is possible it is someone from Miami.

Colt McCoy is ostensibly on the trading block. Although one of the three QBs in Jax is most likely going to be cut at some point this preseason, I doubt it will be in the coming 2 weeks.

They must just want someone to throw footballs while Charlie recuperates. Boller isn't a solution for anyone at this point, backup or otherwise.

With Charlie Whitehurst injured, the Chargers made a move for a veteran backup quarterback.
But not the one most expected.
While Billy Volek was out there as a possibility, the Chargers announced that they signed Kyle Boller to a one-year contract instead.
Boller, 31, spent the last two years with Oakland, where he played in seven games with one start. The former first-round pick of the Ravens has also spent a year with the Rams.
He has a sub-70.0 career passer rating, a 20-27 record as a starter and more interceptions (54) than touchdowns (48).
Then again, he’s signing on to be a backup, so there’s a ceiling on what they’re expecting.

Chargers ink Boller as interim QB

The Chargers have filled the gap in their quarterback depth with veteran Kyle Boller.

Boller will likely be on the roster just a few weeks as backup Qb Charlie Whitehurst rehabilitates a strained MCL in his left knee. Chargers head coach Norv Turner said the team expects Whitehurst to be out “a couple weeks,” a timeline that encompasses the Aug. 9 preseason opener.

Boller, a Del Mar resident, was the 19th overall pick by the Baltimore Ravens in 2003. He started 42 games in five seasons for Baltimore before signing with St. Louis in 2009. He spent the past two seasons with the Oakland Raiders.

Boller, 31, has thrown 48 touchdown passes and been intercepted 54 times in 67 career games.

Billy Volek, who had been their backup from 2006 to 2011, turned down the team’s contract offer on Thursday night.

We would be better off with a machine that shoots footballs downfield, like the one that simulates kick-offs...

If the season comes down to Whitehurst vs Boller - we are screwed either way.

I wonder if the team tried to low-ball him, it was obvious when he was released that the decision was more for financial reasons, not his performance or dependability.

If that‘s how it went down, I can definitely see Volek‘s side of the issue. He‘s a solid veteran who stepped up when needed & won us a playoff game, and then he refused offers to leave and compete for a starting job on a few other teams, to return as our backup.

Now we‘re in dire need of some “insurance” for the most important position on the team and after humiliating Billy by cutting & replacing him with a subpar player, it would take an awful lot of cash and likely even a roster guarantee to lure me back if I were him.

A day after signing with Chargers, Boller retires
Posted by Evan Silva on July 28, 2012, 8:07 PM EDT

The San Diego Chargers were looking for a camp arm when they signed quarterback Kyle Boller as a street free agent on Friday. But Boller doesn’t want to play football anymore.

Kevin Acee of the Union-Tribune San Diego reports that Boller, 31, has retired.

The Chargers are now back in the market for a camp arm.

Boller’s NFL career ends after eight seasons. The 19th overall pick in the 2003 draft, Boller finishes with a 48:54 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 56.7 completion rate. He went 20-27 in 47 career starts.
