The Larry Johnson saga is over.

The star running back Johnson has agreed in principle to a new six-year, $45 million deal with Kansas City, FOXSports.com has learned. The contract includes $19 million in guaranteed money. Johnson is expected to rejoin his team on Tuesday.

While his teammates were holding two-a-days in River Falls, Wisconin, Johnson spent training camp working out at Athletes Performance Institute in Tempe, Arizona.

Not as large as the 6 year, $60 million deal with $21 million guaranteed that LT got in 2004.

So, Carl Peterson kept his word when he said that LJ wouldn't be getting LT money.

LJ made the right decision when he agreed with this contract. I'll bet in three years he'll be either burnt out or getting close.

Herm is going to run that guy into oblivion. 416 carries and 457 touches in '06? That's ridiculous. Even when we were getting the ball to LT 400+ times a lot of those were on receptions. LJ had 44 more carries last year than LT ever had in one season. That takes the philosophy of "getting the ball into the hands of your best player" a little too far. Running-backs have a storied history of a significant reduction of production after a couple season like that. (Even LT after 2 straight season of 400+ touches had 2 down years.) Herm, of course, will be totally impervious to that and LJ will get another 400 carries this year...

Well, he'll be 50% of their offense again the way Huard and Croyle have looked so far this preseason.

Yep. He will still make a lot of money, but he will get run into the ground. It's bad for the team when a selfish guy is holding out so close to the season, so it really does work out for the Chiefs first, LJ second.

I think LJ is smart and realizes this. That's why he wants to get paid NOW, since he'll be useless by 2010.

LJ didn't want to play in the pre-season. He knew Herm wasn't going to allow that, so he did the next best thing (rather than asking to be left out of the lineup).

The Chargers are handling LT in exactly the right way. They will probably ad two maybe three potential seasons to his career this way, depending on injuries. He will be fresh and ready to blow the doors off the bearmobile.

Well the Chiefs might have just gone from last to second to last in the division.
