As a lackluster season comes to a close, local Chiefs fans won't be able to watch the team’s last home game on TV, the first blackout in Kansas City in 19 years.

The Chiefs announced early Thursday evening that Sunday’s home finale against Cleveland has not sold out in time to avoid a local television blackout. The last time there was a local television blackout in Kansas City was Dec. 16, 1990.

The Chiefs did not get an extension until Friday to sell out the game. The team announced Tuesday that they had to sell 5,500 tickets to avoid the blackout.

Last week, Kansas City got an extension and sold out its home game against Buffalo. Sunday’s game will be the third straight home game for the 3-10 Chiefs. They lost the first two games during that stretch.

Wow. The Chiefs didn't sell out their game? KC used to be one of the hardest places to play.

Didn't they have blackouts regularly back in the 80s?
