Kansas City, by way of CBS

Every year, it's the same game at Arrowhead between the Chargers (4-2) and Chiefs (3-3), a bare knuckles brawl from beginning to end. Team records don't apply, and if you want to see a great football game, tune in. Yesterday, the Chiefs came up with yet another knockout blow at 30-27, sending the Chargers back to San Diego without the 5-1 record we all thought they would have.

Kansas City got right to work, turning LaDainian Tomlinson's first fumble of the year into a missed FG attempt by Lawrence Tines. This set the tone for the first half, one in which the Chiefs played their best football of the year, so far.

Phillip Rivers came out less than sharp, and tossed a pick right to the Chiefs D, and QB DAMON HUARD threw a pass to K Wilson, for an easy 11 yard TD. Damon Huard? What, Billy Joe Tolliver wasn't available? Might as well have been Bobby Douglass... frustration...

    7-0 Chiefs

Rivers then suffered his first fumble of the year as well, giving the Chiefs yet another opportunity, and Huard cashed it in with a 21 yard TD pass to Eddie Kennison. D%$#...

14-0 Chiefs. Back to shooting ourselves in the foot...

San Diego managed to eke their way into FG range on the next possession and Nate Kaeding booted a 39 yarder.

14-3 Chiefs... this was not helping my work hangover... I get home and go to bed around 4 am... 10 am road games.....
    Gurgle...

All Pro TE Tony Gonzales then reminded everyone that he is still a force, rumbling 57 yards with a Huard pass to the Charger 16. No one covered him at all; it's the Todd Christenson syndrome all over again. I knew this was going to happen, because Gonzales has had a slow season. So he never turned up in the game films. This led to Larry Johnsons incredible 11 yard TD run. Tynes missed the extra point, which would loom large.

20-3 Chiefs, I got out a nice warm bed for THIS?

Antonio Gates had clearly become the offensive focus for the Chargers on the next drive, with Rivers spreading around the ball, and Gates hauling in 4 of his passes on the way to another Kaeding FG. Gates needs to start seeing a few more plays, he is virtually unstoppable.

20-6 Chiefs- ok I'm awake now...

The Defense finally awoke too, and given a field to defend that was NOT 11 yards, forced a quick 3 and out.

San Diego wasted the next drive, with Kaeding hitting the upright square on a 47 yard attempt. This would also loom large...

20-6 Kansas City, So ended the First Half, - get me a red bull...

Every year we get wiped out early in this game...

The Chargers scored on their first possession of the 2nd half
With a nice Rivers Gates end zone hookup- As I said, get AG the BALL...

20-13 KC. I'm awake now, but is it too late?

KC went right back down the field with what I thought was probably the winning TD, with Larry Johnson ripping off big runs against the Charger D. Johnson scored from the 1 and The Chiefs had their 14 point lead back.

    27-13 KC, SOUND THE CHARGE...

LaDainian Tomlinson got loose on the next series, taking a screen pass 37 yards for the TD, where has this been???

27-20 KC. I actually got up out of my chair for that one...

San Diego's D got busy after that, getting the ball on a sack by Mark Harris, and Luis Castillo recovered the ball on the KC 23. LT then threw his first TD pass of the year, finding Brandon Malumaleuna with a 1 yard scoring toss. BEAUTIFUL!
    That's what I'm talkin about...

27-27 ball game, its mighty quiet at Arrowhead...

Both teams had a chance to ice the game, and KC managed to overcome a false start on Tynes first attempt, and he hit a 53 yard shot to win the game. #$%^&^%$%#@#$

30-27 Chiefs. Great Googly Moogly... Chefs win and I do mean CHEFS...

After the game we found out the Shawne Merriman is suspended for 4 games for roids, and that Shawn Phillips is out for at least 4-6 weeks with a strained calf. Not good.
San Diego comes home for the next 2 games with the Rams and Browns coming in, we need to win BOTH- NO EXCUSES.
    See ya at the Q.
