Post your thoughts on our week 1 opponent, game plan, chances, what you are gonna bbq, drink, etc. Go prop C! :(

    This is a start? :sneaky:

Andy Reid is pessimistic about Jamaal Charles’ chances for Sunday

For most of the offseason, there were indications that Chiefs running backJamaal Charles expected to be healthy enough to play Week One. That’s no longer the case.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said today that he’s pessimistic about the chances of having Charles on the field on Sunday against the Chargers.

“I think it’s a stretch for him to play,” Reid said.

Reid has been cautious throughout training camp with Charles, saying he doesn’t want to do anything that would set back his recovery from last year’s torn ACL. That caution now appears that it will extend to the regular season, and the Chiefs will go with Charcandrick West, Spencer Ware and Knile Davis on Sunday.

Bolts run defense has to make their presence known and make a statement here at the start of the season, stop the run! Doesn't matter who is in the backfield for the other team.

I don't love our chances because of how hard it is to play there, but we get two big gifts in that they won't have Houston or Charles. That really changes the complexion of the game. Rivers should have some time, and their corners are vulnerable. I would guess it would be a high scoring game because KC's O has been really humming in preseason.

Berry is likely to be rusty too after his long hold out. Which also doesn't help their CB's.

Their DL scares me with Poe, Bailey, Howard, and Jones. Our OL better come to play. If we lose, it will be because that unit takes the game over.

The only thing that is scary about Howard Jones is his looks:

    No Houston no 100% JC...

I'm not afraid to crawl on a limb and say we have a chance.

1-0 to start the season and gettin one of six back from last year is cool.

Happy to hear they are missing Justin Houston especially. He gives Dunlap and Barksdale sleepless nights. I just hope we can get the run game going and quieten down that crowd somewhat. Not expecting a W mind you.

    Actually yeah he is.

Closer to Sunday we get the more it looks like JC has gone from being involved in the gameplan to won't even suit up.

    Elk burger. Porter. Good pairing.

I had some Deschutes Black Butte porter this weekend, paired with some sauce-made-from-scratch chicken mole.

Ware is a pretty solid backup for the Chiefs so while their running game might take a hit, I don't think it'll be a huge drop. Their OL is still week at 3/5 spots (LT and both guards) but besides Ware they gotta figure out how to cover and stop a TE which is a huge part of KC's offense.

Defensively, losing Houston is a big win for us but Ford ran circles around our OL last time. CBs 2-4 are going to have a hard time stopping Benjamin/Williams and I can't wait to see what Hunter Henry can do full time. However I'm not expecting Allen or Gordon to have good games here.

    I'm cautiously optimistic.

Ford ran circles around a one legged Chris Hairston. He injured his ankle early in that game and stayed in because we had no options. Ford feasted, but has done basically nothing otherwise to this point in his career.

I would expect Allen to roast Marcus Peters. He's great at getting off press and usually turns those bigger, stiffer guys round in circles. Peters has terrific ball skills and picked off a number of passes last year, but he was also among league leaders in catches, yards, and touchdowns allowed.

Considering our series last year was something like 43-3, I am optimistic it's going to be a lot closer.

Can we pull a W? Maybe, will we beat the +7 spread? Yes.

My prediction? 24-21 - with Lambo winning it...very optimistic but meh, why bother if you don't hope? ;)

This will require our Oline playing to it's potential and defense bending but not breaking a whole lot. I will also predict a special teams blunder, like a TD return that we will give up just to make us all groan

The Chiefs rushed for 150+ against us in both games last year without Charles. I expect that to continue on Sunday.

    Chiefs 30, Chargers 16.

I missed the Vikings game, but against the Titans and Cardinals the starting defense looked better against the run than anything I've seen coming into a season under this regime previously.

TEN's first carry of the preseason went for 15 yards against the defense. MIN ran all over us with runs of 35 yards and 11 yards on their first possession.

This is the worst run defense I have seen under this regime, especially in terms of getting gashed regularly for big gainers.

    My keys to this game...

    Offense-
    1. Keep Rivers standing. (Last year we did't have Dunlap, Franklin, Slauson, or Allen for these games)
    2. Rush for 4+ypc. (With no Houston and a healthy OL, I see this as doable)
    3. When they blitz, we screen. (They will have to blitz to get pressure this time, Woody comes up big)

    Defense-
    1. Shut down Maclin, he is their only real WR threat. (Verrett can/will do this)
    2. Limit Travis Kelce as much as possible. (A real problem with our S situation)
    3. Contain their run and screen game. (They are completely reliant on this with Alex Smith)

I actually like our chances. No Justin Houston vs DJ Fluker, or Hali vs a one legged Hairston for them to take advantage of. The only thing that really concerns me is Travis Kelce vs our safties, and if we can penetrate their OL to break up the rushing attack. Brandon Mebane will have to play a lot of snaps, and I hope our D is smart enough to take advantage of their complete reliance on the short passing game by baiting them and jumping routes.
