Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski will interview for the Baltimore Ravens head-coaching position, a team source said Thursday.

It is not known when the interview will take place. The Ravens on Monday fired Brian Billick after nine seasons.

Chudzinski, in his first year with the Browns, helped develop the Cleveland offense into one of the best in the NFL. The Browns ranked eighth in the league with an average of 25.1 points and 351.3 yards per game. One reason for their success was quarterback Derek Anderson, who was fifth in the NFL with 29 touchdown passes.

Other names mentioned in connection with the Baltimore job include Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz, the Ravens' assistant head coach/offense from 1996 to '98.

Chudzinski, along with several others, also was mentioned in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel in connection with the Miami Dolphins job. Other names listed include McDaniels, Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley, Garrett, Cowboys assistant Tony Sparano, and Patriots defensive line coach Pepper Johnson.

Miami fired coach Cam Cameron on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Browns have begun talks on a three-year contract extension for coach Romeo Crennel, said Joe Linta, the coach's agent.

Crennel, who went 10-6 this season, has two years remaining on his five-year deal.

"The talks were very positive," Linta said. "I really believe [Browns owner] Randy Lerner will want to make Romeo the face of the franchise for the next five years. Hopefully we can work toward that end."

Linta said an extension for Crennel, who earned consideration for coach of the year this season after the Browns went from 4-12 last year to 10-6, will send a great signal to potential free agents that there's stability in this franchise.

In regard to reports that Crennel is on the Dolphins' list of head-coaching candidates, Linta said he doesn't know if Miami has asked the Browns for permission to interview Crennel. Lerner and Browns General Manager Phil Savage did not immediately return phone calls.

Crennel is close to new Dolphins executive vice president Bill Parcells.

    Awesome for Chud

dont know if he would make a good HC (not saying he wouldnt be, just dont know enough about him), but he seems really smart to learn from Cam how to run an NFL offense and execute it in Cleveland with a young/first time starting QB, and average RB

Wonder how he is as a leader
