Rob Chudzinski, who deserves a lot of credit for smoother gameday operations as well as for his lending to midweek preparations in his first season as Norv Turner's assistant head coach and tight ends coach, is headed to Chicago for an interview.
The Bears are in the market for an offensive coordinator after firing Ron Turner, Norv Turner's brother.
Chudzinski, who returned to San Diego after two years as the Cleveland Browns' offensive coordinator, wants to be an OC again and move on to being a head coach.
The question is whether working for Lovie Smith (with two years left on his contract but under fire) and with quarterback Jay Cutler (coach killer?) is the right move. Chudzinski could return to the Chargers, help guide what will remain a loaded offense and try again next offseason.

Isn't that technically a step down if he's our assistant head coach? Meaning he can't be hired by them without our permission?

If he's interviewing, sounds like he already has permission.

San Diego assistant out of Bears' OC mixThe Chicago Tribune is reporting

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that San Diego assistant coach Rob Chudzinski will not become the Bears’ offensive coordinator.

Chudzinski interviewed for the position Thursday. It wouldn’t be a surprise if it was Chudzinski’s decision to stay in San Diego.

He has a nice setup in San Diego as assistant head coach and tight ends coach. He is very close with Chargers head coach Norv Turner. Had Chudzinski become the offensive coordinator in Chicago, he would have replaced Ron Turner, who was fired. Ron and Norv Turner are brothers.

Wonder if he's going to be given an offense coordinator's job soon with us. Don't know what the heck Clarence Shelmon does

He goes back to being the Chargers RB coach, like he was in 2006.

Chud as OC, Shelmon as RB coach.

    Sounds good.

According to one of the papers he only signed a 1 year deal so technically he's a free agent.
