Via Acee on Twitter. No link yet. Acee called him out during the game yesterday for his ST play.

Any other guesses on who might get cut for their ST play since Crosby isn't?

That's pretty bad when you get cut from "special" teams...

Especially after losing to the Raiders. Bet that was a fun flight home last night.

This kind of attitude implies that special teams are not as important as defense and offense. That kind of thinking is exactly why the chargers are in this mess.

It must be ironic if Spillman was actually notified by Crosby that he had to turn in his page from the special teams playbook.

    I agree.

Seems pretty important to me since we lost 3 games because of it.

Justin Fargas is a free agent that comes to mind who could be signed to ST. He's a big, fast dude who maybe wants to get back at the raiders and broncos for cutting him...

This is two weeks too late. And I know there were some that had a major hard-on for Spillman and his potential, but the knock I always had on the guy was discipline (it was the same knock, in spite of his stats in the past, that I had with Cro when he was a Bolt). Whereas Cro always seemed to sell out the play to go for the pick when it wasn't the most prudent thing to do because the safety help over the top hadn't developed yet, Spillman (even when he was playing as a safety) sold out the play going for the jarring, "highlight reel" hit whereas a textbook wrap and drag tackle would have been more than enough.

At this point, if we don't bring up Goodman (again, I think the issue here is the position he plays in that we'd be carrying 5 active WR's while being depth-strapped at other positions: DB, OLB), I'd say the solution lies more in trying to pilfer other teams' practice squads rather than trying to re-hash/recycle vets who couldn't earn their way onto 53-man rosters to start the season.

Good riddance, never knew why we kept him except as some potential project. Since he can't play ST, he has no business on the roster. Keep the purges coming.

The beatings and cuts will continue until progress and morale improve

But how often does this kind of stuff happen?

Even the worst special teams units in the NFL don't regularly give up multiple run-backs for TDs in a game or multiple blocked punts in a game.

    This unit is historically bad.

edit: I'm not trying to imply special teams aren't important, of course, but this nonsense seems a bit over the top bad. And that makes it that much more frustrating.

Of course they are important. In all 3 games that we have lost this season, Special Teams have been the root cause. And after doing some root cause analysis, they are horrible. The whole Special Teams Unit should have been given their walking papers today. How anyone could expect to keep their job after that showing needs to go out and spend sometime with VJ and ask him how his career has taken off!!!!!!

What we could do is bring up Richard Goodman and let him return kicks instead of Sproles. He could also help on covering punts and kickoffs.

Not that it matters but CJ Spillman picked up by SF.
