Shelmon was very good at his job, no way can one be accidentally around that many great RB's.

Shelmon seemed to be just a glorified RB coach though...... the OC tag seemed more honorary than real.

Do you mean Clarence? I guess that Clarence got his clearance from the position. Roger that, over.

Ipad autotype, I guessed on the last name though. In an attempt to be the first to report this news, I didn't waste anything looking up the correct spelling! :)

I don't believe I mentioned OC and Shelmon together.

So.... couple names I've seen tossed about today as "OC" replacements: Hue Jackson and Mike Martz.

Now these are both just fan speculation but I thought they were interesting ideas. Who do you guys think will step into that role?

Um... Mike Martz will get Rivers killed - we've already seen that we don't have the OL to hold up to Norv's insistence that Rivers consistently take 5-step drops and ultimately have to step-up into the pocket on nearly every passing play; you bring Martz in here with his 7-step drop philosophy and Rivers won't ever have that opportunity to step up, he'll already be sacked before he has a chance to make half his reads. Martz's offense requires elite OT's in order to succeed or for Martz to get desperate and finally make adjustments (which he rarely does).

I'm not holding my breath for this to be treated any differently from the Manusky/Pagano situation. Promotion from within is most likely - especially since Norv's not going to jeopardize his ability to call plays (and if he's not the playcaller what exactly is he here for other than to look perpetually constipated on the sideline and drive Rivers' kids to church and soccer practice?).

Interesting take, but don't know if there's an ounce of truth to it..........

26 minutes ago - by Dan McLellan - Shelmon's retirement may diminish Turner's role
Coach Norv Turner has called the majority of offensive plays in his tenure as the Chargers’ head coach (2007-present), despite having Clarence Shelmon as an offensive coordinator. Shelmon announced his retirement on Tuesday. That could be an indicator that owner Dean Spanos is demanding that Turner seek out more assistance during games. Chargers RapidReports

If I'm not mistaken, Dean said changes have to be made. Turner is on a short leash and is in no position to argue otherwise.

Only issue I have with this is that it's speculation. Let's see who gets chosen before we claim its an attempt to reign in Turner's role a little

Great. So they're stripping Norv of the one thing he's good at and leaving him to focus solely on the thing he sucks at?

    This can't end well.

It's pure speculation at this point...... I wouldn't read too much into that.

Shelman stepping down, no big deal. He didn't do anything anyway. As usual Dean is a little late with taking the OC away from Norvous. This should have happened five years ago. Interesting on Jackson. Can you think of anyone who would have a bigger hard on for the Raider organization?

It will be from within, don't expect anything from the conservative no splash Chargers.

Who do we have on staff that could fill the OC position?
