    Bill Parcells vs. Marty Schottenheimer

Heading into 2004, what were the odds that Schottenheimer's Chargers would win six more games than Parcells' Cowboys? 50-to-1? 100-to-1? Off the board?

The Tuna is back to try to refurbish his genius reputation, which takes a hit every time he misses the playoffs and Bill Belichick wins a Super Bowl. The first order of business is reverting from a 4-3 defense to the 3-4 that he and Belichick used to win two titles with the Giants (and Belichick has used to win all those Vince Lombardi trophies in New England). He may not be the next Lawrence Taylor, but rookie Demarcus Ware has been turning heads in the preseason - flying off the right edge.

As for Marty, is there anywhere for his team to go but down? The Bolts were the surprise team of the league last year, winning the AFC West with a 12-4 mark before losing to the Jets in the first round of the playoffs, dropping Schottenheimer to 5-12 all time in the postseason. While the Chiefs were loading up on defensive playmakers and the Raiders were landing Randy Moss, the Chargers pretty much stood pat. Would a 7-9 season surprise anyone?
