    NEW YORK (AP)

    Jan 10, 2010

Rex Ryan has the New York Jets' playoff itinerary all mapped out.
Next week, the divisional round. The following week, the AFC championship. Two weeks later, the Super Bowl. And on Feb. 9, the victory parade.
``It breaks down to this: If we can win three games, we are world champions,'' Ryan said Sunday.
A bit presumptuous, sure, but Ryan has been confident about his team all season. After a 24-14 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday, the Jets coach isn't about to stop now.
That's why he gave his team the itinerary last week.
``I just wanted to paint a picture to them,'' Ryan said. ``Sometimes when you get in the playoffs, you think it's, 'Wow, we're in the playoffs.' But is it really reality to think you can win the Super Bowl? When you lay it out in front of them, I think they can visualize it and realize that, 'Hey, man, if we just take care of our business and play the way we know we're capable of doing, that we can get this done.'''
The Jets truly believe they can stick around in the postseason, and that all starts with their coach. Ryan boldly declared that his team should be the favorites to win the Super Bowl, and then the Jets (10-7) went out and backed up his bold talk against the Bengals. They'll travel to San Diego and take on a Chargers team that has won 11 straight to go to 13-3 and is being picked by many to win the championship.
``We've won six out of seven and we feel pretty good about ourselves,'' Ryan said. ``San Diego has won 11 straight, so both teams are carrying a lot of momentum going into this game. It's just going to be who can out-execute the other.''
This all comes after Ryan mistakenly thought the Jets were out of the playoffs with a loss to Atlanta in Week 15. Then came a win against Indianapolis in which the Colts pulled Peyton Manning and other top players in the second half, followed by a win over a Cincinnati team that had little to gain in the regular-season finale.
That had critics saying the Jets were lucky flukes who just backed into the playoffs.
``If somebody wants to take us lightly, that's fine,'' Ryan said. ``We'll just go ahead and run right through them also. That doesn't bother me one bit what people think. We know the kind of team we have, so that's all fine and dandy. I can promise you this: People are going to look at us and not want to play us.''
The Jets' success lately comes from their No. 1 rushing attack chewing up yardage and time off the clock and rookie Mark Sanchez playing turnover-free football.
``As far as offensively, I thought we had what might've been our best game of the year,'' Ryan said, ``in how efficient we were in the passing game and the way we really ran the football.''
Sanchez, poised in his playoff debut, went 12 of 15 for 182 yards and an eye-popping passer rating of 139.4 against the Bengals. Fellow rookie Shonn Greene ran for 135 yards, including a 39-yard touchdown, leading a running game that churned out 171 yards.
``There were times when the defense needed to be picked up and the offense did it, and vice versa,'' Ryan said. ``It was a classic team win.''
Ryan isn't totally singing his team's praises, though, because there are still some concerns. The NFL's top-rated defense allowed the Bengals to run for 171 yards, including 169 by Cedric Benson.
``When you look at the video, there are some things we'll get corrected as far as our ability to stop the run,'' Ryan said. ``There's some things that are very correctable, but we're going to be looking at getting that done the first day of practice.''
The Jets know it won't get any easier against the Chargers, who have an outstanding passing game led by quarterback Philip Rivers and a rushing attack that features the shifty Darren Sproles and the still-productive LaDainian Tomlinson.
Ryan said the Jets will stay on East Coast time when they get to San Diego on Friday, following a similar plan to the one they used when they went to Oakland and won 38-0. Ryan said he'll also talk to coaching friends throughout the league, including his brother, Rob, who was Oakland's defensive coordinator before taking the same job at Cleveland last offseason.
``We're excited about this challenge,'' Ryan said. ``We're ready to go.''
NOTES: Ryan said P Steve Weatherford appeared to be fine Sunday after missing the game with an irregular heartbeat and should be OK to play against the Chargers. LB Bart Scott (ankle) might be limited in practice, but Ryan had little doubt he would play.

Overconfidence. They should be taking it one game at a time. Granted they only have one game left this season.

WOW this guy must love the sound of his own voice, the bravado and chest pounding is off the charts. You can sense he's trying to talk himself into believing what he's saying.

Hell I thought I wanted to beat the Patriots, I want to see the Chargers smack this fatass right in the duffelbag.

Immaturity might be the better word for it, let's see what they do when they face a focused juggernaught

I don't think he's being overconfident at all. He just feels that his team can do it and the players are feeding on it.

Would you want Norv talking about the Super Bowl right now when he still has to win two games to get there?

He is trying to excite and speak to his team through the media, just as he did when he told the media his team is done.

He is not coming to SD to kiss any rings, he is comming to have his team play. Good, bring it Buddy Jr.

I was quite glad when the Ravens won because I knew his fat *** would be out and about delivering gems like this for the media to eat up and fire up the locker room. Thanks Rex, you just gave the most motivated team in the NFL even more bulletin board material.
